Anyone else here into building their own PCs? I think for the last 10 years I haven’t bought a pre-fab PC but have always gone the route of buying parts and putting things together myself. It’s fun and you get a lot more for your money. Share your builds here, I’d like to see what my fellow forum members are gaming with when they manage to stop playing RB3 and get on their computers.

This my current rig, and it’s by far not a “gaming” rig since I can only spend as much as won’t get me in trouble with the missus :haw: But it’s undoubtedly the most powerful PC I’ve had to date.

The case is a Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus; with an Asus P8Z77-M Pro motherboard; Intel i7 3770 processor, kept cool by a Corsair H100 liquid cooling unit (those are the fans for the radiator on top of the case); 8GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport ram (hoping to get another 8GB at least); video card is a EVGA GTX 760 Superclocked edition (2G:cool:; sound card is probably the weakest, being an old Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme; possibly my favorite part is the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD…Windows 8.1 boots up faster than my phone does, literally less than 10 seconds; also got a 2TB and a 1TB Seagate Barracuda hard drives, along with a 500GB Maxtor hard drive dedicated only to Rock Band stuff, and a 500GB Western Digital that I use for backing up important files via the hot-swappable port in the front, so I can “take it and run” in case of a fire or something; also has a LG Blu-ray burner/player that barely ever gets used; a Corsair CX750M modular power supply (awesome); and it’s all going to a 24″ Asus LED monitor I got recently.

I know it’s a shitty picture, but didn’t feel like taking apart all the cables and taking it out of the desk to get a better picture. How about yours? I have some friends with some ridiculous monster gaming PCs (think dual $500 video cards and digital displays on the CASE itself…), so I’d like to see other cool builds. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Neat. How much did all of the parts set you back, if you don’t mind telling?

The last pre-fab PC I bought was actually the first and only one I bought – a Packard Bell 486DX2/66Mhz with 8 MB of RAM and a 540 MB HD back in 1995. Lately I’ve been slacking and my current PC is 5 years old:

AMD Quad Core Phenom II 945 @ 3.0Ghz

        12 GB DDR3 1333

        (3) 1TB WD Black HDs

EVGA GeForce GTX 275 (really antiquated here!)

        Crappy old 24-bit SoundBlaster 5.1

        (2) 32″ monitors (had one, bought the second so I could see more of the chart when authoring)

This was my replacement PC after a fire five years ago and cost me (minus the monitors) almost $1200. It ran every game I wanted to play back then – now I don’t have time for gaming because when time presents itself, I chart instead. I think I’m an addict!

        :what:

Mine’s a piece of junk that’s six years old.

My new one looks like a steadily rising line on PC Part Picker that makes me think I should have bought it two years ago instead of waiting for new tech that would surely make old tech cheaper.

Honestly, I don’t have an exact number. As I said, I only have done this in steps so as not to upset the missus. The motherboard, processor, ram, SSD, and 2TB HDD ran $770 according to my Newegg order history. I remember the video card was $300 + tax, the liquid cooling was a steal at $50 (only reason I got it, wouldn’t have spend the $120 it normally goes for), the case must have been another $30-50, the modular psu was something like $100, the monitor was about $180, and the blu-ray was about another $100 when I got it. So that’s about $1,500 not counting mouse/keyboard/sound card/speakers/various hard drives/accessories. But then again, not all at once. $1,500 today would probably get you a lot better hardware.

            12 GB DDR3 1333

Cool. I really want to get beyond my 8GB, although now I don’t need it. It would have been a lot of help when I was doing the weekly videos and getting fancy with effects and transitions.

            (2) 32″ monitors (had one, bought the second so I could see more of the chart when authoring)

Damn. That’s all I got to say. I don’t have desk space for even two 24″ monitors, much less two 32″ ones. That’s got to be impressive.

I’m not a regular poster here, but when else am I gonna be able to show off my bad boy?

              CPU: Intel i7-4770K @ 3.5 GHz

GPU: EVGA GTX 670, 2 GB

              Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z87

              PSU: Corsair TX 750

RAM: 2×8 GB G Skill Ripjaws

Case: Azza Solano 1000 full tower

HDDs: 3 250 GB, 2 500 GB Western Digital internals; 1 500 GB Toshiba external

I’m too poor (yeah, really weird to say “poor” after that list) to afford non-stock cooling and only have hand-me-down hard drives, save for the external. Set me back for around $1400 near this time last year.

This is a screenshot of what’s spread across both monitors. Follow the clicks for the actual size:

They do take up a lot of real estate. :v:

I had a GTS 450 before my upgrade, and the difference between a 7 series and a 4 series is ridiculous. Totally worth the price to upgrade there.

I think the 4xxx series came out 2 or 3 weeks after I got my 3xxx series i7. Are you overclocking? (I see the K)

If I were to suggest an upgrade, an SSD would definitely be it. It makes a world of difference.

Yeah, that upgrade will come soon. I’m planning on putting together a home theater PC and will probably use the 460 GTX for that while upgrading my main rig. It’s still been a little powerhouse over the last few years, and I’m satisfied with the visuals of almost every game I’ve thrown at it. I definitely wouldn’t mind having some more grunt in the future, but I’m good for now.
