Sideshow has been working with me to get my charted file (Chicago – Goodbye) finalized but there is an error we can’t figure out. At time signature 79.1, the duration of that measure is chewed up and Magma wont let me compile. If you open it up in Reaper you’ll see how the time goes from 79.1 to 80.4? Its missing 79.2,79.3,79.4,79.5,79.6, 80.1,80.2,80.3.
If anybody can take a look and figure it out we’d appreciate it.
July 8, 2014 at 8:40 pm #424276I’ll take a look quick. Most likely, the time signature changes around it caused the measure to get messed up. It’s happened to me a lot if you do the time signatures in a wrong order.
July 8, 2014 at 8:48 pm #424277There are a lot of time signature changes happening in this song, are you sure they are correct? Not trying to be a dick (I do not really know the song), but I think a lot of 6/8 to 7/8 changes does not seem right.
But yeah, that was your problem. Take your cursor and put it at the the measure 79.1 marker that you made. After that, keep hitting + to zoom in (or just zoom in). You have to go REALLY close, but you’ll see that the time signature marker is JUST after the measure 79 start. Thus REAPER is starting 79 but then before 79.1 happens it sees the time signature change, and adjusts itself to start a new measure at 80 in 3/4. Remove that marker, and put another one actually on the beginning of 79 (Use the “snap” tool to make sure)

Also, about this. You have the time being set to 3/4, which means you should only have 79.1, 79.2, and 79.3. Unless you meant for the 3/4 to start at 80.1

The time signatures are correct. I zoomed in and there is a definite gap for whatever reason. I can’t figure out how to fix it without completely screwing up the rest of the song. Any ideas?

After it caused me to redo one song, I never forgot the lesson again.
July 9, 2014 at 12:15 am #424295The lesson, that is, being: don’t ever go back and edit an existing tempo map without knowing this:

You can’t. Once you backtrack and edit one time signature markers, you need to redo them all. That Reaper bug is just brutal.

You can* fix it, but yes it does not always work easy, or always for the best.
I got rid of the messed up measure, which caused another to become “squished” later on. I fixed that, and then two “squished” occurrences later, they were all gone. From there, I just took the offset notes and move them all as a group to where they should be.
However, I think the map got screwed up a little bit. I’m not sure though, as that may just be how/where you chose to mark things out. Look at it and let me know.

It’s what I use for BPM maping. Ignore the Part 1 and Part 2 and manually go through and place markers yourself, after that, it’s a minute process of Shift+q / Enter for me ha. Using this method (pretty much how you are supposed to) which make the measures be set at the same time of the BPM mapping, so this is much less likely to happen unless you start messing with time signatures after.
July 9, 2014 at 3:12 am #424305Thanks for taking a look at this project because it was giving me a huge headache trying to figure out how to fix it last night.
The song now compiles perfectly. Will test it out and release it later this week. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
