I’m having trouble hearing the bass in this mp3 I have. I’ve messed around with the EQ but all I get is feedback.

Any help on this would be amazing!!

I’ll send the mp3 or wav to you as well!!

No need to send the the file, but you will have to increase some of the lower frequencies in the EQ pretty much. Not by too much though, or it will start clipping as you said. Though in most cases you don’t want to mess to much with a fully mastered song file if it’s not multitracks you are working with.

I think he just needs to bring it up to actually hear to author it, not to remaster the mix.

I don’t want to sound like a noob but I’m completely clueless as to how to use it. If someone could show me how to use it to my advantage, that would be great.

Why don’t we just close down the forums? Anything can be answered using Google, so why even ask for help in a forum that’s specifically designed to provide help on the matter at hand? Oh wait…

Because it’s much more rewarding to learn things on your own than to be spoon fed everything.

The way i see “I’ve tried x, y and z and still don’t get the result i want” is a good question.

“I haven’t tried anything so please start your tutorial with how to find the equalizer in REAPER” is not.

We all love nemo for the awesome tools he has created but since retiring he has become a bit of a forum troll – sometimes justifiably sometimes not

“I’ve messed around with the EQ but all I get is feedback” is a good enough indicator he did something on his own. Nobody HAS to suggest a course of action, but “google it” is sterile. Of course he can google it, as he can google any other information, but since it’s a forum for people who author songs who also provide help, it’s the spot to ask for things like this.

Back to the original question, activate the ReaEQ plugin and use the Bass Lopass setting: it’s not extremely effective but it may give you what you need.

You can also add the ReaPitch plug in and transpose all an octave higher. The song will sound pretty silly but the low frequencies will pop up a bit more helping you discern the patterns.

Giving a cranky reply is NOT being a bit of a forum troll. As all the people who put countless hours in this he is just frustrated with those who don’t and tend to cut corners. I just thought this wasn’t the case, that’s why I replied publicly, so that people know that we don’t have to agree on EVERYTHING to get along.

BUT DAAAADDDD! I already put on my costume and everything!

I always have a hard time hearing bass parts, so I use Audacity and follow the steps in

. I usually get decent results after following the first half of it (up until using Low Pass Filter).

Another way is to play around with the steps listed in the first of the ‘Other Answers’ to this question. Again, I don’t follow them directly (the results vary on a song-by-song basis), but they give a pretty good set of guidelines.

Of course, it depends completely on the song, and some songs will give better results than others. But for a quick 5-minute fix with no messing with EQs, it holds up pretty well. If not, then yeah, playing around witht eh EQ settings in Reaper’s probably your best bet.
