Hi, Erniewan here, you might know me as the guy who charted pro keys for some Beatles Rock Band songs. Well you didn’t think I was going to chart only Beatles, did you? I do have a list of songs to get to and as a Pro Keys player, my customs will be keyboard-focused rather than guitar-focused. This means for the most part that I will be charting only pro keys and standard keys, though I may decide to chart other instruments for special cases. I will also be doing Expert Only, and that’s why I’ve opened up a new Customs thread rather than releasing to C3.
I’m going to try to release in packs if possible, and this time I am releasing some Donkey Kong remixes by Patrick Burns in honor of the latest Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze release! I actually had another song planned, but I didn’t have time to finish it due to other stuff, but if I end up finishing it then I will add it here. These are two of my favorite remixes of all time, by an outstanding remixer, Patrick Burns.
This first custom is called Revisiting the Ruins and it is a remix of an obscure song from the Kremlantis levels in Donkey Kong Land (Gameboy). It is a chill song with marimba as the central instrument, which actually turns out to be pretty challenging! Interesting fact: Patrick Burns himself gave me the sheet music for this way back when it first released, and I’ve only now found a use for it.

This second custom is called Rare Respite and it is a remix of the Jib Jig song from DKC2, which more of you may recognize. It has a Celtic theme which is absolutely beautiful, and features piano, guitar, clarinet, and flute. This song was included in the DKC2 remix album, Serious Monkey Business and was an overwhelming cult hit. It’s one of my top favorite songs ever (not just of video game remixes).

Sorry for the wait, I finally stopped procrastinating and finished up the third custom to round out this pack. It’s a remix of Klomp’s Romp from DKC2, the theme from the first level, but in a cocktail jazz style and features piano, guitar, and saxophone. This song was included in Serious Monkey Business as well and if you’re interested you can find that here.

Halloween Pack:
This song is actually one of the songs I originally planned to chart back when I first started charting to release for Halloween 2013, but I had trouble with the tempo map. I went back and finished it about a month ago (or at least the keys part) since the part itself wasn’t too hard to pick out. The Killers aren’t a keys-centric band, but they usually have some sort of keys (piano or synth) in each song. This song is one of my favorites of theirs because it has trumpet, which I play!

This is one of my favorite classic rock songs because it has a magnificent keys part! Styx has a bunch of other epic rock ballads with great keys parts, but this one was priority. I wanted to chart some of the other ones, but I don’t think I’ll get to them unless someone really wants to collaborate. I know it’s not really Halloween-related, but I wanted to release it already.

This is pretty much the only Porcupine Tree song I listen to anymore, the piano arpeggios are so hauntingly beautiful. I think someone else might be charting a full version, but if you’re anxious to play the piano part, it’s a bit repetitive but quite tricky!

And here is probably the first song I actually charted I believe, which I had planned on releasing for Halloween last year. My friend was going to chart the vocals, but he didn’t get to finish, so I didn’t put in the effort to chart all the difficulties and add Overdrive (and the tempo map’s a little rusty). But don’t discount it yet, watch the video, it has a great keys part and it’s a fun, silly monster-themed song!

I hope you enjoy my customs! I maaaay chart something for special events in the future, but since I’m going to school now, I don’t have enough time to work on these anymore. Feel free to message me if you want any files and want to finish them for a full release or something.
Note: Please let me know if there are any note errors, be it pitch, rhythm, chord, etc. Please do NOT let me know if you don’t like how I charted something, or if it doesn’t follow RBN standards to a T; although I try to follow the standards, I may take liberties in charting left hand parts, charting guitar to keys, adding hard-to-hear parts, mixing instruments together, etc. Animation/venues might be iffy too, since I’m on Wii and they don’t tend to work real well on there anyways.
February 22, 2014 at 1:48 am #414547Older video game stuff should be trivial to chart if there’s any way to get sequenced data out of it. Well, if you are considering charting anything GBA/NDS, I might be able to help on those. Good work on those.
February 22, 2014 at 1:55 am #414548I’d love to see original Donkey Kong Country 2 Soundtrack in RB3 (not remixes).
Absolute masterpiece.
February 22, 2014 at 2:18 am #414552Thanks, great to see some more game remix goodness around these parts!
February 23, 2014 at 1:06 am #414589Loved your work on the Beatles songs and I am eager to check out your new customs! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
April 14, 2014 at 2:20 am #417812Here’s that third remix I was getting around to finishing. I kinda took a hiatus from charting, but I’ll try to set aside time every now and then because I still enjoy it.
April 15, 2014 at 12:47 am #417883Hey there,
did you think about charting original Donkey Kong Country albums?
That’d be amazing.
April 15, 2014 at 1:21 am #417889Oh yeah, I’ve considered it. I do really enjoy the DKC2 OST, but it’s not top of my list to chart. The 20th anniversary is next year though, maybe I can do something then!
October 31, 2014 at 11:57 pm #431944I haven’t been charting much recently, so I’ve decided to release some songs that were technically works-in-progress, but that I’ll probably never finish. All the parts shown have been fully charted, but are Expert only and may or may not have Overdrive. Some of these I intended to release as a pack last Halloween but I missed the deadline since I was still new to charting back then. Others are just ones are worked on and kept around perhaps in case I made another pack or added more instruments.
So basically, if you like any of these songs and play keys, enjoy them, they’re a lot of fun. If not, sorry for not charting more, feel free to steal them and add guitar or vox or whatnot!
November 1, 2014 at 4:40 pm #431968Personally I’d absolutely love to play simian segue on pro keys
November 4, 2014 at 12:38 am #432106Thanks buddy! Looking forward to trying out that Styx chart.
November 4, 2014 at 1:53 am #432113Love the song “Bones.” I’ll cross my fingers someone grabs it and adds the other instruments.
