So I have a 4GB USB stick that I have been using for customs since I first out about them last April. I think I may have finally filled it up which, in itself, wouldn’t be a big deal as I would just get another one. I use USBXTAFGUI to load songs onto the USB and it has worked great (only complaint is having to do one song at a time) and I must have loaded a song that made it go over capacity and no when I try to open it up in that program it just freezes up and errors out. I took the USB stick over to the 360, plugged it in and it says 0 KB free but when I try to go to the details of it to delete a song to free up some space so it won’t freeze up on USBXTAFGUI it says there is nothing on the drive. Am I screwed? Do I have to re-format and the re-load all of my customs I have acquired from many different places over the past 10 months? Is there any other 360 formatted USB drive explorer programs that will allow me to do anything with this drive? I only use this and then Velocity on my Mac (which also works great, but I didn’t try it since I have had this problem). The one thing I didn’t try on the 360 is to see if it would still load all of my customs on Rock Band which I guess if it could that then I would be okay other than the one custom I loaded that made it go over capacity but I assume it wouldn’t load them correctly since in the 360’s settings it said I had nothing on the drive. Any help is appreciated!

January 31, 2014 at 4:10 pm #413219I don’t know how to solve the problem you’re having, but I will say that you should have a backup folder on your computer with all your customs in it. Every time you download something, put a copy in that folder. I’ve had to re-format my USB drive twice, and having to wait a half hour for everything to inject was a lot easier than re-downloading everything. I also have a backup of my save game on another memory card.
The USB Explorer programs I know of are Party Buffalo, Horizon, and Modio.
January 31, 2014 at 4:21 pm #413220Thanks for the quick replies. I guess I will just re-format it and am learning the hard way that I should have had a backup of all my customs somewhere on my computer. I will check out those other programs. Just out of curiosity, do any of those programs show how much free space is left on a 360 formatted USB drive so I will know that I shouldn’t load that “one last song”? Obviously, just looking at it Windows Explorer doesn’t accurately show you how much space is left and I know I can check the drive space on the 360 but there are plenty of times when I load customs on my computer with no intention to play Rock Band until a later time.
January 31, 2014 at 6:24 pm #413223It may not solve every problem going forward, but in general I would recommend only deleting songs from within the 360 interface.
Any time that I tried to delete a song from within the drive explorer programs, I have had issues with it not being read after that.

It’s so, so, so simple and headache-free once you give up the “joy” of playing with randoms online, give up TU5 for good, and just use the USB to transfer customs to your Xbox’s HDD.

But how will I be able to justify my life’s significance without being able to submit my 568th best guitar score on Everlong?
No one would know my legacy!

Yeah, you could go that way, but i also really enjoy playing online. Theres just a certain thrill to it that actually got me back into RB3. Its just a lot more fun than playing on your own for me.
February 3, 2014 at 4:24 pm #413367Well, I went ahead and formatted that USB drive, downloaded Party Buffalo (I already like this program more than USBXTAFGUI), re-loaded all of the customs I wanted on there and kept them stored on my computer in case the drive decides to crap out again. I will admit, it was actually kinda fun going through the C3 song database again as there were a few songs that I originally had just missed so I picked them up along with my original customs.

There is great fun to be had jamming on-line with non-randoms. It’s been getting more and more difficult to find participants for face-to-face Rock Band parties for me, so the on-line band is my Rock Band highlight for the week.

I would prefer to have “fun” playing with him and just simply handle customs independently on a usb stick. My issue wouldn’t have been a big deal if I had simply just made a backup of my customs like I am doing now.

I finally succumbed and did just that. I found that using the stick caused me to have random corrupted files and I had lost access to close to 100 songs that I was not even aware of. The other nice thing is that I now use my primary GT and so I can see an up to date count of all my gold stars and play counts.
February 28, 2014 at 12:56 pm #414842Personally use two hard drives, one for online tu5 and one for offline tu4.
Transfer via USBXTAFGUI on USB stick. well worth getting a spare hard drive especially with the quantity and quality of songs still getting released.
Also have all backed up on pc, took absolutely ages but its there for when the day the hard drive fails!

Thank you, this was exactly the problem. I was able to recover many GB’s of space on my drive with this in mind.
