      No suggestions, just some trivia.

Back in the day, Rock Band’s charts for drums would be nerfed down as a limitation to the player and the hardware required to play the game.

This meant that any song with a fast amount of kick notes would have to be trimmed. Commonly, any song that would involve two pedals would involve downcharting it to a pattern that would involve just one leg.

On the other hand, if a song involved constant use of the kick pedal majority of the time, the charting would be trimmed down even further. It is unknown as to how long this rule carried on.

Starting with Rock Band, on-disc songs such as Blue Öyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and the cover of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” would have their kick pattern downcharted by removing every third and seventh note each measure.

Exceptions as to whether or not the pattern would be downcharted would involve how often it would occur throughout the song, and if any certain note patterns are involved in the matter. Again, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” demonstrates this during the guitar solo with its constant snare hits. Involving DLC, we can also confirm that Disturbed’s “Indestructible” gets by this since it only occurs during the chorus.

Nevertheless, this rule would also carry over to Rock Band 2 and then some. Judas Priest’s “Painkiller” is a prime example of this. In addition, Testament’s “Souls of Black”, with its 1/12th pattern, would have an even heavier downchart: only the second half of the measure would not have any kick notes. Its causes for this are still unknown.

With a mass amount of downloadable songs, it hasn’t been narrowed down to where and when the rule had come to an end. If it hasn’t happened in Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4” on Rock Band 3, then perhaps the rule has been laid to rest.

You sure about this? I honestly thought it was a somewhat common pattern to omit the kick on the snare beats, so I’m not sure it was a “downcharting” rule at any point. It’s certainly the way I’ve written parts as a drummer before! <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Haven’t cracked open “Reaper” for tell if it’s actually the case here, though. By comparison, however, BOC’s “Transmaniacon MC” had kicks all the way through, and it was mid-period DLC, I believe.
