djmike534MemberWould I really get doubles though, the way this is structured? Let’s say I downloaded something I already had and went to transfer it, my PS3 should notify me that there is already a folder with that name, right? And that remote location I could use to recollect what I have just as easily as keeping it local, right? 3GB is alot of space to keep for that bit of convenience. You will have to decide for yourself if holding on to files is the right thing to do. You are asking people who know what to do and then second guessing them so I’m done there. Also, is 3 gb really a lot of space these days?
I have like 20 TB divided between 2 pc’s.
I’m more concerned specifically with that .dta file, and how it is generated. Let’s say I get a new batch of songs, and I do the “PS3 Conversion” in the C3 tool — wouldn’t the new .dta file only have information on those new songs? And if I were to transfer that .dta, wouldn’t it overwrite the one at the remote location, and erase the information on the first batch of songs I had?Correct. Overwriting the dta on the PS3 with a brand new one will replace that one. Any songs on the old one on the PS3 that’s not on the new one will be lost from your library. So you have to add to the “old” one as you go and that’s only done directly on the pc. So you must keep it on the pc. Also people here don’t always name updates identically like the originals so now you have different folder names for the same song. Not a huge deal in itself, but your PS3 will get messy and now which is the correct folder for that song? Plus song ID numbers get changed just as often and when that occurs you will have doubles in the library if you don’t check & edit the dta.
Good luck.

djmike534MemberIt’s up to you whether or not you keep the cons or song folders locally. I would keep something locally so you can see what you already have to avoid doubles in the future. Plus having something to work with when/if a song gets one of the PS3 issues like skipping – unable to load, frozen load screen or looping at the end of song. These are inherit PS3 problems you will get to know. You always want to keep the current dta file where it is. When you add stuff later, it needs to update the dta file it finds in the merged songs folder. Without it, you lose everything that was on it before. Plus, when a song gets an update, you want to delete the previous one from the dta or you end up creating a mess you don’t want.

djmike534MemberYeah I’m surprised you didn’t mention Collins as it is a duet. Great pick for sure, tho.

djmike534MemberOf the conflicting ID’s one song will be missing from your music library. You can hunt down the missing track and change its ID number. If you just added songs when this happened as you say it should be easy to find. Or you can use the ps3 converter in C3 Con Tools. Under “Numeric ID Options” select “batch replace song IDs” and choose your dta file. It will find & fix any ID conflicts.

djmike534MemberYou have songs that both have the same ID.

djmike534MemberIf you want another ps3 user’s confirmation, post the original ogg encoder or whatnot and some instructions on what you did.
