Hi there everyone! First off I just want to say how awesome each and everyone of you are. Seriously, it is quite unfathomable. Pat yourselves on the back, like a bajillion times each! Go on. I’ll be waiting.

    …..

I can’t believe you did all bajillion! Kudos.

Sorry, now on to my actual issue! I have recently gotten into the customs scene and am reading on all of the information (very well put together info, I might add). And have started working on my first pack! I am almost completely done with “Stinkfist” (Full band, all difficulties) and will admit that I barely survived tempo mapping due to Tool’s tendency to be nuts with time signatures. I have no musical theory background at all I’m afraid, but was able to pick up on signature changes during “Stinkfist” and I feel that I did a pretty good job with it (I will be posting soon to get feedback, as I am 1000% open to any criticism.) Now I know Tool is a crazy band in that regard and I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to tempo map “Intolerance”? I want to say that the beginning is in 13/16, but I have no flippin’ clue. And have tried throwing many variations at it, all to no avail. I thought “Jambi” would be harder to tempo map, but that is going well so far. I will certainly give credit where it’s due and I will take care of the rest if someone would be willing to provide a map. Thank you for at least reading this!

(Lastly, if anyone is working on any Tool, please PM me. I will not only keep your secret safe, but will back off entirely unless you can use something I’ve already done. In which case, it’s all yours! I currently have much more faith in you guys than myself at the moment. )

Songsterr is really good for time signatures usually, though I can’t vouch for this song because I don’t know it.

Thank you for the link Farottone! You know, I had used Songsterr to help determine some tough notes to hear on drums in Stinkfist and I guess I never thought to check it for time signatures!

I am going to give 4/4 a quick try and it that works, “Keep It Simple Stupid” will have never had as much meaning to me as it would right then! :aaa:

Our PDF tutorial gives good pointers on how to use Songsterr to lay out the basic tempo map.

How could I be so foolish and not see this beautiful (and quite colorful) PDF! I know it was just released last week but still, no excuses! Very well put together, and I promise this is my last question for quite awhile! I was somewhat privy to this, but it is nice to have it verified – In section A.9 on page 41, it is mentioned to “check if a measure in Reaper has a drastically different tempo than the previous one even though the song doesn’t seem to have changed tempo that much.” I just want to ask about the parameters regarding that change. What defines as drastic? I’m assuming like a 7+ BPM change? I did get 4/4 and 5/4 alternating to work in my map (upbeat and downbeat wise, I think), but the tempo transitions from 97.xx to 116.xx each time and I feel that that would fall under a “drastic” change and indicates a more complex alternation. Thanks again everyone, I promise I’ll get this!

(Saying it again, love the PDF!)

It kinda sounds like it is, yes. A 7 BPM change is not THAT drastic if it’s occasional but a 20 BPM is, even more so when it’s repeated. Drop the 116 BPM marker and see how the peaks align first.
