I appreciate the primary members and their work to release full band and on a schedule, effectively filling in for HMX where they left off. But there are many others working on stuff apart from the primary members and I am interested in connecting with them to perhaps combine our own efforts into mini-teams.
Does it makes sense to coordinate individual charters into a secondary type of “collective?” I have charted 6 songs, 5-lane Guitar only (high quality work,) but I can’t really commit to doing the full band versions nor do I have the time or interest in doing every instrument, and I don’t have drum skills, so I’d probably do a crappy job on half of the instruments and a good job on the areas that I am good at.
Since I appreciate the benefit of having FB songs, I’d love to have a place set aside where we can state what songs we are working on and then collectively agree to take on various parts of other peoples songs. Perhaps there can be another major section in the forum for this purpose?
Another reason for this is so the creators can see what songs are being worked on so that effort is not duplicated. I’d hate to spend 8 hours charting a song only to find out someone else is doing the same song. Personally, I don’t mind that people know what songs I am working on or plan to do, but if keeping it private is important then a private board is ok too. Qualifications could simply be that a person has to submit 1 song with 1 instrument to demonstrate a certain level of commitment and understanding, and optionally agree to keep the info private if that is desirable.
May 4, 2013 at 12:43 am #399164You can definitely find help for your songs here, but as far as getting organised to do full band customs, starting from a single instrument chart is really, REALLY, difficult. You need either one author who was just dying to do that song, was prepared to drums, vocals, bass, keys, animations, etc. but for some reason didn’t want to/couldn’t do guitar, or a number of people each doing something. And there’s always the issue of the “lowest common denominator”: you need someone to do vocals, which is fairly rare, and you need that guy to do your song.
Any authoring work is great and you should chart as many songs as you love playing, but as far as full band customs go, it’s a very difficult task if you can’t do most of the instruments by yourself. Of course, that shouldn’t stop you from posting something like “I want to do this song, anyone in for the missing instruments?”, mine is just a comment on how complex it is do a full band custom.
May 4, 2013 at 2:36 am #399171I definitely agree. I am up to doing more than just Guitar. Bass is easy enough. I’m sure I can handle Vocals and keys too. I just have no interest in doing drum charts. One thing I am pretty certain of is that if someone had a drum chart of a song I liked well enough, I may very well volunteer to do the guitar/bass parts at least. And I’m sure others would offer the same. Just like you, I’d love to do justice to the songs I do, but if there is no interest in carrying this further then I’ll just go back to doing my own guitar charts.

May 4, 2013 at 12:22 pm #399186Frankly, there are a lot of changes to the forum/board layout that I’d like to explore. We were hesitant to put a bunch of boards in place since we didn’t know what level of traffic to expect and wanted to minimize “dead boards”, but we might look at adding a couple of additional boards down the road.
May 4, 2013 at 3:10 pm #399194I would definitely be up for learning how to do stuff. Drums is my primary instrument so it’d likely be what I start with. My music tastes/songs I really want to chart are a bit odd though.
And I am still waiting for current versions of the creators docs to be available as I feel reading through it will help me understand the process so much better…

We’re working on a tutorial. Creators.rockband.com docs are made for people who know how to chart, essentially. We want to do something for everybody and in a more organised manner.

June 2, 2013 at 7:40 am #400371I was gonna make a thread about this, and then I found…this one.
I’ve been working on “Aerodynamic.” Props to psym for charting it first on guitar. I’m starting it from scratch to include other instruments and to have a more literal translation.
I got the tempo map down, and charted Expert (ergo, the other difficulties) for Guitar, Bass, and Keys.
I know jack squat about drums, so I won’t even attempt charting it to prevent embarrassment and inaccuracies.
Also, the project is lacking:
– Overdrive and solo markers
– Pro instrument charting (optional)
– Vocal charting/harmonies
– Event & Venue
– Polish it/finishing touches
– The “100% pirated custom” seal of approval
Future tracks I’ll work on will have the same components (instr. charts, until I learn more about voice, events and venue), and most likely lack the same components listed here. Anyone wanna take the baton from here? I got the .rpp down. I’m just not sure what files to transfer, and to whom yet.
…also, where can we discuss “songs in progress” in here?
June 2, 2013 at 7:53 am #400373I prefer doing drums and vocals. I wouldn’t have a clue about authoring guitar or bass, but I do have some experience with keys.
One thing I’d like to improve on is stage animations. I like doing keyboardist handedness, lip sync, and drummer presentations. I would probably need assistance with guitarist or bassist handedness.
Most importantly, I am needy with adding a song’s count-in, and not just using a generic RB one either.
June 2, 2013 at 8:28 am #400375I prefer doing drums and vocals (and maybe keys).… maybe I could chart your guitar/bass tracks, and you could chart my drums, vocals and refine keys?

Good point, let’s wait for espher to pop up, he’s been keeping track of what forums to use, so he can see if we need a forum for community songs.
