Hey, I’m Ryan, and I thought I’d drop by and lend a hand with the Rock Band Custom market. I’ve been authoring for the Rock Band Network, having worked with such authoring groups like NoisyPuppet (Bang Camaro, Jonathan Coulton, My Morning Jacket), ThatAuthoringGroup (Powerman 5000, Rishloo, Memory of a Melody), and ChartToppers (brentalfloss, Paul & Storm, Eurobeat Brony). Hopefully, my experience will be an asset.
I think my specialty would be venues, mostly because out of all the parts there are to do, I can churn those out the fastest, so anyone who needs one for their song, I’d be down with contributing. I can do guitar, bass, drums, and vocals (though I may have problems with songs with three or more vocalists, two is fine). I’m probably not gonna have much with keys, since chords by ear is a nightmare without some sort of source to go on.

April 24, 2013 at 8:53 am #398772Hello and welcome. Just wanted to let you know that I would pitch in should you decide to do an ABBA or a Huey Lewis pack (Hip to be square, Small world, Perfect world and Back in time could be good candidates, in examnple).

Just wanted to let you know that I would pitch in should you decide to do an ABBA or a Huey Lewis pack (Hip to be square, Small world, Perfect world and Back in time could be good candidates, in examnple).I kinda take things one at a time without future thought of making packs. But seeing as Huey Lewis is really popular in Rock Band circles and ABBA is one of the best selling groups ever, I can see wanting to release multiple songs by them at once.
I would chart “Dancing Queen” vocals in a heartbeat.Personally, the reason I did “Money, Money, Money” was because I could easily identify each of the instruments by ear. “Dancing Queen” probably isn’t gonna happen for me. If I were to do another ABBA song, the most likely candidates would be either “Mamma Mia” or “Does Your Mother Know.”
April 24, 2013 at 12:50 pm #398777Are you using GP files/good MIDI files for this? Because they make your life so much easier.

April 25, 2013 at 12:12 pm #398795I got the expert charts to “If This Is It” (mostly) complete and decided to put it up in the playtest board before working on the easier difficulties. Also, I decided to go and do a Huey Lewis pack. Songs I’ll be adding to the list will be “Hip to Be Square,” “Perfect World,” and “Stuck With You.” I’ll definitely work on the tempo maps, and would appreciate anyone wanting to do any parts of any of those songs.
May 9, 2013 at 2:48 pm #399450So, I may as well update this for some stuff I’m doing or plan on doing and bump it up to bring attention to it.
First off, “Money, Money, Money” now has a confirmed release. So really, last call for playtests.
Also, adding some new songs on my To-Do list, or announcements more or less. Also a chance for people to stop me from wasting my time on a song that already being worked on by someone else.
As anyone has seen in espher’s CanCon post, I said I had a plan on bringing a Canadian band in with a three pack. Key word in that being plan. Simple Plan, that is. Yep, I got a three-pack in mind featureing choice cuts from their 2002 debut, No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls. Those songs being “Addicted,” “I’d Do Anything,” and “Perfect.” Right now, “I’d Do Anything” has the most work done in it, and I asked Farottone to look over the guitar for me, as I’m not entirely sure how good the last half is.
In terms of singles I plan of doing, the first one I’ve had posted up here for a while, but it seems no one paid attention to the post since I didn’t put a new post to highlight it. The first single is the Cyndi Lauper classic classic, “Time After Time.” Not the most complex thing you’ll see on the site (I had the bass and drums finished rather quickly), but an 80’s ballad that can make the manliest of men misty eyed is something I sure Rock Band needs.
The second one I’m working on is from the band Primus, so bassists rejoice! The song I’ve got in progress is their highest charting single, “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.” The way I’m seeing this, the drums are most likely gonna give me problems. I’m very likely gonna ask around for help on that one. On the plus side, I have the Expert Bass all mapped out. Spoiler alert: It’s freaking awesome!
The third one, which I haven’t gotten started on but plan to get a map out, is a favorite from Guitar Hero II, the Butthole Surfers’ “Who Was in My Room Last Night?” I remember going to this song to solely practice on my HO/POing, and am really looking forward to giving it the full band treatment.
I shaved a song off my Huey Lewis pack, that song being “Perfect World.” I still plan on getting the other three done, and “Hip to Be Square” is especially close to completion. It’s just those darn keys!
So… don’t have much to say after that. There’s some news for ya.
May 9, 2013 at 3:16 pm #399451Cyndi Lauper – “Time After Time” (Status: Drums and Bass complete)
Ok, now I’m all giggly. But… yes, you already know that, you need to do Girls just wanna have fun too. Little know fact, it’s actually mandated by law, so there’s nothing you can do but do it. DO IIIIIIIT!
May 17, 2013 at 8:06 pm #399750Huey Lewis and the News – “Hip to Be Square” – are you interested in adding PRO guitar/Bass? I like this song enough to do it, and its in my skill-set wheelhouse. i.e. it seems easy.

That’s really the only roadblock I got on this song. If you wanna do a Pro Guitar and Bass chart, then be my guest.

If this was my song, I would chart the sax in the outro to avoid losing sleep over it. Thus, a repeating pattern of B C# E (sustained) and G F# E (sustained) will suffice.

I approve.
May 30, 2013 at 1:49 pm #400280So, just thought I’d bump this up to say I got another song in the works. That song being Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” a song I chose for its distinct lack of keys (which is also the reason I went with Primus, Butthole Surfers, and Simple Plan). Just throwing it out there in case anyone was also thinking about. Also, if there’s any plans for a country pack, sign this one up.
