So, I never exported RB2. I had lost the manual when I first got RB3, and never knew about being able to get another code from EA. I also didn’t play Rock Band from early 2011 to just a month or two ago, so I also missed my chance to even export it at all.

What I was wondering is: what would the process for getting the song data off a legally purchased and owned copy of RB2 and turning it into a custom file for RB3?

If we can’t discuss this publicly because of pirates and whatnot, I understand, but I’d definitely like to be able to play all my RB2 songs in the new game.

Install the Rockband 2 disc to the system.

Copy the Rockband 2 files to a flash drive.

Open up and extract the data with Modio.

You’ll now have a bunch of CON files with no filetype that you can use just like a custom song you download.

That’s my suggestion. Not sure if it will work.

That will absolutely not work. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Game installations are, well, game installations. It’s not songs in custom format. Why would they be?

You need to convert the game file, decrypt it, extract the game files from the ark file, then create con files for each song that will be stored in the ark file in loose files within folders.

This requires knowledge of patching ark files, you need ark tools, need knowledge to put a con file together from constituent parts, and knowledge of how to separate song entries from one big songs.dta for all the game songs.

More than one of us here know how to do all of this, but I won’t discuss how to do it and I’m fairly sure nobody else should either. The tools are out there on the internet. Searching only these forums won’t be enough.

Also, just as a side note. Modio (at least the version I’ve always used) will fail with any files over 1GB. Game installs are a few GB each. I use Party Buffalo for transferring large files.

I guess what I should ask now is:

          Should I even bother?

You should try to find a new copy of the game and export the right way. It’s going to be immensely easier that way.

              From Harmonix’s support page:

We’re sorry, but after 5 years of availability, the Rock Band 2 export offer has expired. You can continue to enjoy the Rock Band 2 experience on disc, and if you’d like to add to your Rock Band 3 library you can purchase DLC by visiting the in-game Music Store, or by searching the Xbox LIVE Marketplace or PlayStation Network store.

Well that sucks. I’d say the alternative is to acquire the export file. Not the game export. That’s a different file.

But now we’re on territory that I don’t know what the official C3 stance is anymore.

Well I’ll let someone who wants to help me out with that PM me for my email or Skype so we can talk out there and not in a place where it’s possibly against the rules to do so. Thank you for your advice, though!

Right here. It specifies PS3 in the title, but I’m also not too fond of the idea of buying a new copy of the game only to find out that the export expired on the 360 too.

The license is expired for all versions of that game.

To be clear, you will not find solutions to get those songs otherwise here in public. Anything that’s taken as is and done by Harmonix is not kosher, as a general rule.

I understand that completely!! Thank you all for your help otherwise, though.
