Rebuilding RB1 era song packs as single songs

I’m sure this is a dumb question, but…

I’m currently going through some old RB1-era packs and trying to extract single songs to use in RB3. As an example, I don’t currently want the entire “Axis: Bold as Love” album eating up space, but I do want “Spanish Castle Magic” (and some others) in my library.

I thought I could just do the following:

    – Extract the package

    – Copy the songssongname folder, its contents, and the songs.dta file to a new location

    – Edit the songs.dta to reflect a single song instead of a pack

    – Rebuild the package as 45410829 Rock Band and copy it to a USB stick

I followed that process with some RB3-era packs — using 45410914 Rock Band 3 of course — they all worked fine and were recognized immediately. Every RB1 DLC I’ve tried refuses to show in RB3. All my custom single song packages are scanned as DLC after clearing the cache, yet they just don’t appear in the game’s song list.

Yes, the files are CONs in the proper location (content/0000000000000000/45410829/00000001). Yes, the file structure is correct. No, I am not editing any of the information in the songs.dta file aside from copying/pasting the single song info into a new blank file.

I’m sure I am screwing something up. What am I doing wrong with the older DLC?

Are you using the latest copy of Le Fluffie for RB3?

It sounds in theory like you’re doing it right, but obviously something is wrong. When you open the package in Le Fluffie, does it show as Rock Band 1?

Another alternative is to just put them in the RB3 folder. It doesn’t matter what game the DLC/custom is for, RB3 will pick it up.

I’m using 2.1.1 to package the files, but I also tried XLAST. Seems they make the same basic package, but again, no luck either way.

When opening the file in Le Fluffie, I see this:

This is what I saw with all the RB3-era files I tried, though with different info in proper spots, of course.

I’ll try copying the file into the 45410914/00000001 folder. Might get lucky…

Thanks for the help and quick reply. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Yeah that indicates that it’s got the right game ID for RB1.

Just to be sure, you ARE deleting your song cache in between tries, right? You will lose some scores but it’s the only way to make sure this works.

Yes, song cache is getting nuked every time I try to add a new file. So…cache doesn’t exist, is created on USB stick, RB3 rescans, finds and imports 1/1 file, then…nothing new shows up, just the 83 RB3 songs.

Found a workaround for now, but it’s not helping save HDD space. Basically, editing the songs.dta in the pack and not altering ANY of the other content allows me to “skip” songs in the packs. Oh well…it works.

that’s really weird. wish you could have figured it out. if you think it comes down to a problem or lack of compatibility with Le Fluffie let me know and i’ll try to help you with it. I just can’t think of what it could be.

As far as HDD space, do you really need it though? I have like 80GB of RB stuff on my xbox and still have well over 100GB free <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” /> Then again, I only play RB3 on my Xbox, so I don’t have other games or DLC to worry about.

Oh, space isn’t really a big issue. I’m sure that my gaming collection on the 360 is going to slowly wind down to free up space on this ol’ 60GB drive. (I should have bought a new one at some point but I’m cheap!)

It’s more a matter of having a problem I want to solve and not getting a solution that fits all that well. I’m going to keep poking around, and though I doubt there’s anything in Le Fluffie that’s causing problems since everything else works fine, I’ll definitely let you know if I do find something.

          Thanks again. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
