Hello! I’m new to this forum and to the whole custom song gig in general and I’m already having trouble.

I downloaded this custom from the database: http://customscreators.com/index.php?/page/index.html/_/a-little-piece-of-heaven-r16272 , and also downloaded C3 CON Tools 4.00 to convert it to PS3. Here’s where the problems start.

I tried to follow the guide in this forum to install the customs but the first thing I noticed is that I needed to install an HFW and HEN. Me, having a CFWd PS3, ignored those steps and went directly to the “convert to PS3” step.

First problem: The step description is that there is already a guide on how to convert from xbox360 to PS3… Uh… Ok. Went to that guide and the first thing that the guide says is that it’s outdated and redirects to the guide i was already following. Double uh… Ok, I’ll try to follow the outdated guide anyway.

Second problem: This guide requires having a free pack installed or installing a .rap that is included on the tools folder. Checked the tools folder, the .rap is nowhere to be found on the /bin folder. Then, I realised that the updated guide said the .rap is no longer necessary. Ok, I’ll open the C3 CON Tools and use it directly, it can’t be that difficult. Press PS3 Converter. A prompt appears telling me that i need to input an author ID and a song ID… Uh… I didn’t have an account here yet so I’ll just press Yes on the default number. “That Author ID is not correct.” Welp, time to close the tools and make an account. Huh, now it wants the song ID, so I won’t touch the default as the prompt said. I guess I won’t have any problem with the author ID since I don’t intend to upload the conversion to the database.

Third problem: Ok, now I just have to drag the con here, put decryption type 3 as the other tutorial said and check it’s in NTSC mode, ok, done. Press start and there it is, in all songs is a folder with another folder and the songs.dta, nice, time to put it in the PS3. I go to the PS3, make the two nested folders, check that they’re named correctly, boot Rock Band 3 and… the song is nowhere to be seen.

Fourth problem: Ok, back to the drawing board… Oh hey, the outdated guide says I need to merge the songs before installing, maybe that was the problem! Put the folder on songs to be merged and… why is merge songs greyed out? Huh, maybe I need to check the merge songs box that the guide said… except there is none. The only box similar is the one that says “Merge new songs with existing ones” and it’s also greyed out… I’m out of options, time to post on the forum!

And here I am. Sorry if I overdetailed the process but it seemed like the best way to see if I failed in any step that may have looked inocuous at first glance.

Thank you all in advance and sorry if it’s an obvious problem.

For the 4th problem, you’ll see a folder called “ps3” on your C3 Con Tools folder, go there and inside of it, there will be “All Songs, CONs, Merged Songs and Songs to Merge”. Paste your customs on CONs. Now, if you have files on the Merged Songs, delete all that sh*t so you can start from zero. Once you have deleted all, inside of Merged Songs, make a new text document (idk if you call it that way since I have my Windows in Spanish). Now open it and save it as songs.dta, that should solve the problem of merging songs options greyed out in the program. Now, once you finish converting all the customs, copy all the files you got in Merged songs and paste them on the Rock Band 3 folder.

Hope I made myself clear, unfortunately I’m a HEN user, so idk how CFW works, not sure if you need the rap file there.

On a CFW PS3 you need to “own” the Rock Band 2 Free Pack 01. So basically you will need to install the rap file for your disc region provided in (C3 CON Tools root)binraps and rename it to “UP8802-BLUS30463_00-RBHMXBANDCCFF0D6.rap” if NTSC or to “EP0006-BLES00986_00-RBHMXBANDCCFF0D6.rap” if PAL, and then install it your prefered way (usually through either PSNPatch or reActPSN).

I think installing the .rap is giving me the problem now. I installed psnpatch and put the .rap inside the exdata folder, but putting the usb either in the left or right slot, the program can’t detect the rap. I tried putting the rap inside the PS3 HDD, and it did detect the rap but there wasn’t any option to install it.

Thing is, when I execute PSNPatch, I can select where I want the program to look for the rap and I can select usb from 0 to 9, but on the file manager, it has a 2 digit number assigned (left slot is 0078, for example). I don’t even know what I’m doing wrong :/

P.D.: I updated the game to 1.05 as i’ve seen that older versions may cause to not be able to see the songs

PSNPatch requires you to log to PSN at least once. If you are not comfy with that I suggest using reActPSN as this doesn’t require PSN login.

If you have, then make sure the rap file is correctly named with the names I gave in my last post. PSNPatch has a button to automatically install all raps in the exdata folder.

Okay, I used react apparently successfully (the system rebooted and a new user was made), but I still can’t see the song on the menu :/

P.D.: The .rap is named as you said in the post

P.D.: I’m using an NTSC region game (and NTSC .rap) on a PAL system, is it possible that this causes some kind of incompatibility issues?

Are you sure you followed the reActPSN instructions? I think the new user is where you should install the rap file, I might be wrong since I don’t use it but that seems plausible. Make sure to read the instructions for it carefully, google is your friend.

Another thing that might play in your favor is updating the game if you haven’t already. You don’t need a PSN connection for that just an internet connection.

The DLC/Custom songs regions has to do with the disc region and not the console, so you’re fine there.

These are the steps I followed, as stated on the ps3homebrew subreddit:

    Basic Activation

    1. Install the packages that you wish to activate.
    2. If you have ran ReActPSN before, delete the ReActPSN profile from the left-most column by logging into it and pressing triangle on it
    3. If your homebrew came with a .rap file, ensure that it is named “.rap” and not “.RAP”, then place it on a USB device in a folder called “exdata”
    4. Make sure ReActPSN is updated to the current firmware release
    5. Plug your USB device into the right-most USB port on your PS3
    6. Scroll all the way to the left of the XMB and create new user named “aa”
    7. From your main profile, press X on the ReActPSN icon
    8. The console will black screen and reboot
    9. The “aa” profile should have been renamed automatically

Maybe I need to do something else after this, or were the wrong steps?

I’m gonna send you a PM with a discord server invite so that we can figure this out in real time.
