Definitely paved the way for Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and many others including, more recently, Gus G.
Back when these guys first broke out, I had applied my own term (well what I ‘thought’ was my own anyway) for this style of sound….I called it Sonic. Yeah, kinda dumb sounding I know, but that’s what always came to mind.
