I’m currently running REX 4.81.2. I would love to play online once I get it working.
Are there known songs that cause issues? I am trying to add about 300 songs and going one by one seems tedious.
March 14, 2017 at 3:56 pm #482690I suggest to try only one to be sure that the RAP file was installed properly; once you get one custom to load you are in the green. (Showing up in the list doesn’t mean it loads; play the song until it ends.)
As for known issues; I’ve not encountered one myself but some people did in this thread… though to be honest once your customs are loading fine don’t worry about it just add them all if there’s an issue then pinpoint it.
And that’s very cool; a full band might be possible in the future; and could very be the first ever full band session of custom songs on PS3 ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
March 14, 2017 at 4:05 pm #482692When a song doesn’t work, is there anything that can be redone to make that song work?
A full band online would be great. I play expert on all instruments. I play drums on hard on some of the more difficult songs.
March 14, 2017 at 4:09 pm #482693That’s a tedious subject I haven’t looked much into. Some people claims some songs will have weird behavior (either just not loading; or loading indefenetly until you close the game.. stuff like that) no matter what encryption type you use; I’ve seen a custom song that didn’t worked under type 1 encryption and did under type 3 encryption. There is probably more to it than encryption type but yeah… more study needs to be done in those special cases. In 99.9% of the cases any song converted using type 3 encryption will work; the other 0.1% I have no idea how to fix. If I ever run into a song that I really want to play and has this issue I’ll try my best to get through it.
Also; for online play we need valid a song_id for every song; but that can be edited directly from FTP so it’s not a huge deal for now. (C3 CON Tools generates a valid song_id if an invalid one is found from the xbox CON; but it is a random number and we need consistency (this number is what identifies leaderboards; and all the onlines stuff))
March 14, 2017 at 4:18 pm #482694Thank you for sticking around this thread and helping out. I have a midterm coming up Thursday, so I won’t be able to get all the songs working too soon, but I have spring break in two weeks, so I know what I’ll be working on!
How do I change the encryption on a song? I have not seen that tutorial through my searches.
Can I delete everything in the HMX0756/songs folder (even the Rock Band 2 Free track pack songs) and just start over, adding one by one? I kinda went crazy trying to get everything to work lol. Do the track pack songs need to be there?
March 14, 2017 at 4:23 pm #482695You can delete everything; even the RB2 songs but you will lose the 8 RB2 songs unless you back them up. (Back up their DTA entries also!)
The encryption type can be selected in the PS3 converter in the options on top of the app before converting. If a song already has a PS3 version it is highly likely that this version works and therefore should download this instead of the xbox version. I assume some people still convert songs to every platform even if they don’t own said platform so in theory there could be some PS3 versions that were never tested; so look out for that.
Once you get a single song working fine you can just add them in small ammounts; let’s say 10 or 20; and load the game to make sure everything is fine… don’t need to test them all you just want to be sure your DTA file is correct. I also suggest every time you have modified your DTA back it up in case it gets fucked up. Adding/removing songs all the time could result in a typo in the file or something else; good example is the guy that posted before you which had a foreign character and any song that was after that character was ignored.
Also I sent you a PM a while ago ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />
April 1, 2017 at 7:20 am #483437hello everyone! Sorry for my English!
I’m trying to play some customs on my ps3 but something is going wrong atm. A few days ago I was able to play some customs, no I can’t and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
I have rock band 3 both installed on my ps3 hdd and on the usb hdd.
I’ve downloaded some customs from the database (51 are already ps3 version, one is xbox360 version and I’ve successfully converted it to ps3 version. Howerev it doesn’t work even if I put this converted song)
I followed the guide. I even reinstalled with multiman the game on the internal hdd.
I put the folders of the songs (each one has a songs.dta file inside, is it correct?) on the songs to merge folder. Merge is successful (no error)
I transfer all the folders and the newly created (and bigger in size) songs.dta file to “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs/”
then I load the game, go to choose song and the game freezes saying something like “dlc songs 2of 2 loaded”. It doesn’t go anyway further
I’ve also tried to re-install the rap file with psnpatch
What’s the problem? Could it be that 51 songs are too many?
April 1, 2017 at 5:50 pm #483451No; too many songs is 3000+ songs.
Why is it saying 2 of 2? Do you have DLCs you bought? This number is the number of folders loading. If you are only using custom songs you should be using a single folder and therefore the game should load a single folder and not two. Also; the rap files is to unlock the edat; which is done when the song loads so trust me…. it has nothing to do with the rap file.
When you have a problem loading customs; fisrt thing to try is a single song. Does that work?

thanks for helping. Solved the problem, like someone before me, the problem was “time is running out” by Muse that was freezing the game. is it any way to play that song (not too important) ?
April 4, 2017 at 9:21 am #483554I don’t know; never tried that song. The problem is most likely in its DTA entry. Is that a legacy C3 release? Which version did you download? If you downloaded the PS3 version I suggest trying to get the CON file and converting it yourself; or the other way around if you used the CON file; try the PS3 file if it exists. (For legacy C3 release make sure to check the legacy database for a PS3 version).
It could also be conflict between this song and an official song, some customs uses the same “small name” (the name used for folder; files…) as an official song and that can cause weird things to happen as far as I’ve understood. This is fixed by changing all instanced of the small name in the DTA entry and also of course changing every single filename that needs to be changed. To know if that’s happening look at your DLC folders through FTP (There are 3 possible locations for each regions… RB1 RB2 and RB3; customs are most likely in the RB3 folder)… if you see the same small name then I suggest to fix that; if not I really have no clue; maybe a song_id duplicate? (The song would be another custom song)
June 19, 2017 at 7:53 pm #486582so i hadnt updated my ps3 for awhile and i added a whole ton of new songs and something has gone wrong somewhere !
I assume there is a 3000 song limit on the ps3 ?
i didnt think i had gone over 3000 but i knew it would be close and now its only showing about 1100 songs.
any idea if that is the case and i just need to delete a bunch ?
June 19, 2017 at 8:28 pm #486587If you were exceeding the 3000 limit you would have a popup saying so when you boot the game.
There is no way to exceed the limit on PS3 afaik; so you have to deal with it.
It is most likely a broken DTA entry since when you reach the limit nearly 3000 songs will load (2952 I think?) and random songs will be ignored.
When you add songs; add them by bulk instead of all at once; so if there
June 19, 2017 at 9:11 pm #486591thanks alternity – actually i wanted to delete a bunch of songs so i ended up starting from scratch with 1 song and then added everything again at once so i guess there is a good chance the dta file is corrupted.
i will try again adding a bunch at a time and see how it goes.
July 8, 2017 at 8:22 pm #487474i can’t add more custom songs to rb3 to ps3 only officials appears and a few of customs

Most likely a broken DTA entry; double or even triple check all your DTAs. I suspect that the problematic song and any song written after the problematic song will not load when there’s a problem like that.
