How to do key changes?

I am making a custom of We Are Number One and I’ve ran into some problems with the key change in the final chorus.

The key is raised half a step from F minor to F# minor (I’m pretty sure) at 2:19. This creates a problem with the song’s bass riff, which I’ve charted as GRYR-GRYR-YBOB-RBYR. As you can see, it occupies all five buttons, so I can’t just move everything a step to the right. How should I handle this situation?

The way I see it, there are 4 options:

    1. Change the riff’s chart for the entire song so that it occupies only 4 buttons. This way it can be moved a step to the right when the key is changed. I kind of don’t want to do this since I like the way it is now, but I will if I have to.
    2. Move the riff chart one step to the right for the final chorus and change it to fit the 4 highest buttons.
    3. Move the riff chart one step to the right for the final chorus and make the former orange note green, as if it was played on a higher string.
    4. Ignore the key change. If I recall correctly, Guitar Hero would in some cases do this; the chart would repeat like before while the sound played changed noticeably. The Pro Keys part changes for the key raise, and I think I will make the Guitar part change as well, so I’m thinking it would be weird if the Bass one didn’t.

How would you solve this? Are there examples in existing official and unofficial songs?

It is entirely your choice how you go about it, you are the one authoring so you call the shots!!

Personally, I have done the last one on quite a few occasions!! But like I said, entirely your choice!!

I don’t have any advice for you, but another song that contains a key change is Green Day’s “The Static Age” if you need something of rough reference.

Thank you! I was looking for something like this. It seems they ignore the key change in order to make full use of all 5 buttons.

Ouch! Oh well, the end result is the same, I just wanted to play the song <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
