December 1, 2013 at 8:12 pm #410069The keyboard part is very well transcribed! There are just a few things that I’d like to suggest…
From 73.1.0–76.1.0 the ascending piano notes could be charted.
And also, the flute solo from 76.1.0 to 88.5.0 would be really nice to chart on pro keys. It’s optional, but it really would be cool.
Even if you don’t chart the flute, you should at least chart the piano that doubles the flute in a few of the spots instead of the synth line. It would be more fun to play.
Again, just suggestions. You don’t have to take them if you don’t want to.
Thank you! Not charting the flute was a conscious decision since Gabriel used to play it. I was thinking it would actually be cool to chart that to vocals like the Bill Bruford Earthworks RBN track way back when, but I don’t know if people would welcome that idea or hate it. But you have a good point about the piano part between 73 and 88, so I will take a look at that.

Go no, please just no.

Haha, ok.
But are you sure? The lyrics for the fast part could be “flutey-flutey-flutey-flutey flute flute flute flute flute, flute.”

Personally I might, just might, be ok with a kazoo charted to vocals. But flute, no. That’s just me though. And no matter how tempting it would be to play Firth of Fifth and see “pffft pffft pffft” on screen as lyrics, I would vote no. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
December 2, 2013 at 5:27 am #410094Updates:
Firth of Fifth now has all difficulties. I played through Medium/Easy in Reaper only, Hard in the game. Overdrive and beat chart is now there. I don’t have any unison phrases right now, and about 18 overdrive phrases overall (so 1/2 of those should be unisons). The piano part in the flute solo is now properly charted as per sageamagoo’s feedback, so that’s one less place to catch your breath now ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />. I had to put a BS 5-lane keys chart in there because OD phrases have to match between pro and regular keys, and OD phrases require at least one note in the phrase. Anyway, don’t play five-lane keys, you won’t like what you see.
In the Cage exists, pro keys expert is charted. This is a “0.1” chart, so only really noticeable horrific issues on sightread have been fixed. No overdrive or beat chart yet. The verse in this song is in 12/8 and it’s a swing rhythm (so quarter-eighth-quarter-eighth etc.). In the game the eighth notes all pick up as sustains. It’s not going to be an easy part anyway but I wonder if I should chart all the eighths as sixteenths to prevent the sustains. Tempo map also needs work in places. Didn’t think it was too bad when I first did it, and I wasn’t exactly rushing through it, but now that I have a charted part I can hear places where it’s not in sync.

December 2, 2013 at 12:11 pm #410101Please update the OP to include the most recent version of the Reaper projects in addition to the CON files. As Farottone said, it’s the best way for us to give you feedback.
December 2, 2013 at 4:32 pm #410105AnonymousOh hey. In de’ cage. Now that’s a song I would love to have as a Full Band custom (Don’t have Keys Controller).

As Farottone said, it’s the best way for us to give you feedback.I acknowledge that as a general point, but the main thing I was wondering in this case (the Cage verse sustains) can really only be checked by playing the CON. That said, I can work on the tempo more tonight and post what I have at that point.

December 3, 2013 at 6:04 am #410144AnonymousYou’re in for a treat then.Well. I know both songs now as I checked them both out (Technically one out since I already knew de’ other). Personally, would like to have de’ 2nd song as a full band custom or at least with Guitar+Vocals.

I’m sure it will get there at some point, one way or another.
I don’t yet have a collaborator for In the Cage, so if someone wants to do other parts of the song, let me know. I may also do other parts as practice to learn how to chart something other than pro keys, but it’s not necessarily my priority. I do need to fix up the tempo map on this chart a bit first.
December 31, 2013 at 3:30 pm #411425Being a hardcore Genesis guy, if I were playing keys (regular keys), I would not want to play the flute part for the same reason that the author gave. They did play different instruments and if I ever charted a song like Supper’s Ready where the bass player played rhythm guitar, I would chart that. But if it’s a band I care about and know well, I don’t want to give a member a different member’s part.
For example I’m a huge DMB fan and Harmonix charting Boyd’s violin part to the guitar track totally took me out of the song enough for me to want to edit the file.
December 31, 2013 at 10:07 pm #411441I still haven’t recovered from having to play saxophone parts in Elton John songs ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />.
January 1, 2014 at 4:29 pm #411477What HMX used to do, and what I do for my customs, is that something can reasonably assigned to a synth, it goes to pro keys. That’s true for brass instruments, strings, proper synth, piano, etc.
Btw, pro keys are the only pitched instrument in a regular RB3 chart, so whenever you have a clear melody that can go to pro keys, it’s great to have the proper melody authored. Realism is great and I’m all for it, but you can’t just go with what was played by the original artist otherwise the guy playing bass in the Rush songs is gonna quit the band in a heartbeat. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
