Good afternoon, gentlemen. I’m working on a RB2 custom I found in the database (Burn, to be precise), and the first time I work with Magma v1.

Actually, I think it’s worth noting that I first converted the RB3 custom to RB2 using the Onyx tool, so that I could do less work (my bad). I modified the MIDI file to correct a few details in the charts, and when I began to compile with Magma v1, it threw me this error:

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section main_riff_1a] at 3:1:000 does not have a valid section name

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section verse_1b] at 31:1:000 does not have a valid section name

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section main_riff_2] at 46:1:000 does not have a valid section name
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section verse_2a] at 54:1:000 does not have a valid section name
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section verse_2b] at 66:1:000 does not have a valid section name
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section chorus_2] at 75:1:000 does not have a valid section name
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section main_riff_3] at 81:1:000 does not have a valid section name
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section bridge_1a] at 89:1:000 does not have a valid section name
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: c:/users/l_arm/downloads/rock band authoring stuff/songs/burn/o410740960.mid (EVENTS): [section bridge_1b] at 97:1:000 does not have a valid section name

And the list goes on and on… The problem is that I never modified the EVENTS track, and they already had that name after the conversion.

I don’t know if doing this is against the rules, but I’m at loss. I tried to re-arrange the sections, manually changing them, even deleting and re-adding them, and nothing seems to work.

Maybe someone in here could help me, please? I’ll be so grateful. I can provide more information if needed.

      Thanks in advance. Have a nice evening <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

        Hey there!

It looks like the issue is because the practice sessions aren’t correctly named. Check here for the proper spelling: http://docs.c3universe.com/rbndocs/index.php?title=All_Practice_Sections.

If I remember correctly, Magma v1 does not allow specifying sections at all, since RBN1 only allowed automatic percent sections. “does not have a valid section name” is a cryptic way for it to say this…

The events are correct in-game, but Onyx puts the section events in after checking the midi with Magma for this reason. So you’d have to do the same thing if you wanted to compile yourself with Magma (add the events back into the midi from the output RBA/CON). Another option is you could just take your edited midi and replace the midi in the original CON Onyx created, if you haven’t edited anything else about the song and you know your midi is otherwise valid.

Thanks for your replies! I’ll update if everything turns out correctly <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Edit: Okay, using the C3 CON tools, I successfully replaced the MIDI file, and everything worked out correctly. I made sure to delete the previous file from the X360 before adding the new one. Thanks for your help!
