I would consider donating money just to get pitched vox (and maybe even Pro Keys) added to certain existing songs.

I’ve got a pretty long list of songs I’d pay to get made full band… I like the idea of pledging donations tied to songs being made.

Very pumped for this, can’t wait to see all the releases!

              Thoughts?

Had always thought about that as well and especially to tie in nicely to an event. My naggings were as follows: what if it were a poorly authored custom and someone pledged quite a bit of money, would that be fair for either party? could you “choose” your author or at least have a say in it? Like, if an author signs up for one you want and you have the option as the requestor to reject or accept that author. I realize that could lead to other issues.

as an alternative or even in addition, what if there were auctions that were like “from” authors that an author could volunteer their services for “any song of someone’s choosing” that fit their style more. so an auction for charity and the result is a custom that the requestor specifically will know the result. or a group of authors who are known well for their specific styles all author one or some together?

whatever the outcome, i think it’s a great idea and if vetted out correctly, could result in some fun songs and more money towards a great cause.

I don’t think people making pledges should get to choose authors because it’s very likely that there will be multiple people offering to donate for the same song (which is actually the point…to drive up donations or Make-A-Wish), and they may have different preferences when it comes to author. I’m presuming that the authors can figure out a way to decide amongst themselves how to dole out the “high request” songs for this event. As authors, you guys should obviously be able to pick and choose songs that *you* want to do, too…not to be forced to do something that doesn’t excite you.

Your other idea would also work, I suppose…it’s really up to you guys if you want to offer “collaborations-for-bid” or whatever. My only recommendation would be to keep it general; presume that there will be *multiple* people who want the same song, and instead of making it a bidding war situation, we want to try to capture *all* of the donation offers for charity, not just the winning ones!

I understand more. Let me present scenarios for what my thoughts were…

Scenario 1. Song gets added to a spreadsheet. Multiple people pledge bids. Authors decide who among them wants to work on it. Author or authors self assign based on preference. Song gets released. People complete the pledge.

Scenario 2. Song gets added to a spreadsheet. TWO people pledge bids. Authors decide who among them wants to work on it. Author or authors self assign based on preference. Song gets released. ONE person doesn’t like the outcome. Pledge completed by one.

Scenario 3. Song gets added to a spreadsheet. ONE person pledges a bid. Authors decide who among them wants to work on it. Author or authors self assign based on preference. Song gets released. The ONE person doesn’t like the outcome (for whatever reason). Pledge in jeopardy.

I think this works if people are okay with pledging knowing it’s a good cause regardless of outcome. That SHOULD be the intent anyway, but just weighing the scope; it’s just the way my brain works.

In regards to my other suggestion, it’s not about song (that’s taken care of with your suggestion), it’s about author. So think of it as one of those bachelor auctions where people are bidding on an eligible bachelor, but instead of the bachelor it’s an author. So some author might be known for creating country and heavy metal music, that would be the genres of the author you’re bidding on. Once chosen, you get a country or heavy metal song of your choosing (within specified parameters like under 6 minutes, etc.). Since the person would likely be familiar with the author, the outcome expectation would already be set.

Another idea that could link in with the pledges would be mystery boxes. To cut a long description short, someone pledges on a mystery box of an amount (for an example let’s say $10) which could be hinted as let’s say… a famous band from 30+ years ago. Others could include certain genres of music, difficulties on instruments or even a pack of songs. Obviously I’m just spit balling here but could develop into a cool concept if used effectively.

As someone who doesn’t chart and would be willing to donate for customs, I’d love to just be able to say, “If X amount of songs off this list get made, I’ll donate X amount.”

Just for the sake of giving a visual I’ll throw around some numbers. So lets say I request 20 songs, and out of those 20 songs I’d pledge something like this.

                      1 song gets done = 2$

                      5 songs get done = 15$

                      10 songs get done = 35$

                      20 songs get done = 55$

None of the songs have to get made, but at least authors would know what songs people are willing to donate for.

Id definitely donate for a song or even a pack of songs. Granted Id want to be able to choose what songs or even get a list of songs the authors would be willing to chart & pick which to donate to.

                              Great idea again, folks.

A question: do all songs made across all the communities for their platforms make their way into each game? Example: if a Clone Hero chart is created will a RB3 ‘version’ be created as a matter of course? I suspect not but wanted to check.

I like the concept of bidding for songs to be created but also recognize the risk (as it were) of a chart being created the bidder isn’t happy with. Will these charts be at official C3 levels (you know what I mean) of quality? If so then there’s a baseline of quality that’s inherent and that’s probably all that can be asked for. I think bidding for certain authors is a slippery slope that might put people under a bit of pressure… Like someone mentioned above, I might want author(s) x and y but neither of them like the song or feel inspired to do it. What happens then?

I think if there’s a baseline of quality involved (C3 levels) then the mods / coordinators can be left to dish them out (assuming there are takers at all).

No, each community will be responsible for their own content, independently of other communities.

All of these are valid concerns, and are good reasons why (if I understand correctly) there won’t be any official means of bidding on songs. If someone says they’d pay X dollars for a song and someone else decides to chart the song, that’s great, but we’re not going to make it a formality.
