I make drum charts for songs that I find interesting or fun (hopefully both), mostly Alternative & Indie.

I hear what you’re saying – “Only drums?!? Well that stinks.” I agree! That’s why if you see any tracks that catch your fancy, and you know how to chart guitar, bass, vocals, or keys, feel free to jump in and lend a hand… every little bit helps!

In fact, feel free to list any tracks you’ve helped me with on your page or anywhere else you see fit. Even give yourself star billing if you’d like (so long as I’m credited for my part of the work – usuallly tempo map & drums) – I care more about getting these songs to full band status.

And if you see any mistakes, let me know! No need to spare my feelings – I’d rather get things right!

Unless otherwise noted, my releases contain:

    • Regular/Pro Drums
    • Overdrive and Fills
    • Proper Drum Animations & Events

However, I’ve also made the following changes for releases starting on 03/11/2015:

    • Expert Difficulty only, with CAT EMH
    • No Practice Mode Sections
    • But I will add these in later for tracks w/multiple instruments (ie. collaboration). This was mainly due to time… I’m not sure how many people use these features, and I’m pretty slow as-is.

    –03/15/2015– NEW!!!

    The Strokes – Last Nite

What: The Strokes! Their first single! Along with the White Stripes and a bunch of lesser-knowns and coattail riders, ushered in the Indie retro-revival that still persists in some form even today. Yep, way back in 2001. Fourteen years ago …. aww, I feel old now.

Drummer: Fabrizio Moretti, that Drew Barrymore-dating, decent solo album (Little Joy) havin’, man about town. Some people complained about the simplicity of the drums in this first album (I’m sure the AC/DC guy got that a lot his whole life), which led to him playing like a madman on the third album seemingly just to prove them wrong (success!)

Difficulty: This is an easy one, but in my mind “easy” does not necessarily mean “not fun”. It’s so upbeat, and a blast to play imho. Also, this is probably a good song for beginner’s pro drum practice; switching up cymbals, flams, and bass drum patterns without getting too tough.

Radiohead – Anyone Can Play Guitar

    Radiohead – Just

    Radiohead – Electioneering

What: Three from Radiohead’s earlier, more traditionally “rockin'” albums. I don’t have to sell you on this band – you probably know by now if you love or hate them. I’m not sure which is cooler these days, but I don’t really care – I’m a fan of their stuff, old & new.

    – “Anyone Can Play Guitar” is probably the 2nd most famous song from their debut album (if there is one), aside from Creep. It’s a neat song, and a hint of what was to come.

    – “Just” is one of many great songs I could’ve chosen from the 2nd album, but it was also a huge single – really a no-brainer. Plus, it’s pretty dang fantastic.

    – “Electioneering” is the obligatory deep cut – OK Computer also has tons of great tracks, but this is one of their most forwardly drum-centric songs, ever (one reason I didn’t pick “Karma Police”… a bit repetitive). Plus: cowbell. Need I say more?

Drummer: Phil Selway – an underrated chap. Sure, maybe not super-technical, with your diddles and what have you, but he can churn out a memorable beat that fits the song perfectly… and for a band as wonky as Radiohead can be, that’s no easy feat.

Difficulty: “Anyone…” and “Just” are not too hard – the former is a bit endurance-y with its hi-hat heavy groove, and the latter boasts a snare roll that’s nothing to sniff at (hence the “2” rating). Electioneering is double-dipped triplet-y goodness, sprinkled with fun fills.

Green Day – J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva)

What: Even if you don’t recognize the name, you’ve probably heard the tune if you’re a fan or you owned a radio in the mid-90’s. I’m pretty far from a Green Day fan (not denying their influence, or that they wrote lots of memorable pop-punk), but if I had to choose a fave song of theirs, this would probably be it.

It’s a serious subject – the death of a childhood friend – and it wrestles with melancholy and pragmatism (with a tinge of hope) in way that feels real and honest. And even if you don’t care about all that, the drums are fun, the bassline is neat, and there’s a guitar solo.

Drummer: Frank Edwin Wright III (I’m not f***ing calling him Tre Cool) – maybe not super technical, but he’s appropriately fast and knows how to pound out a memorable beat… at least on the singles, on the other album tracks things can get a bit same-y.

    Difficulty: 5 – unsurprisingly, it’s a fast one

P.S. – My apologies, this song comes from a soundtrack that just might be the most horrifying album cover in Rock Band history.

The Zutons – Pressure Point UPDATED! 03/09/2015 – Chart re-done!

What: If you’ve heard the song at all, it’s probably from an old Levi’s commercial a few years back (either that, or you’re British)… some hate it; I think it’s pretty great. A little pop, a little rock, and a lot of super cute sax player. And it’s got a guitar solo. People like that those, right?! (not that you can play it…)

Drummer: Sean Payne. I don’t know much about the bloke, but he’s good. Now let me tell you about that sax player, Abi Harding… (what, they’re engaged to each other??! ah geez)

Difficulty: It’s a 3. Cue standard “it’s overrated” spiel (it really probably is, though… I need to get a handle on that)

Hear it Since the preview audio is butchered courtesy of Sony, I left in the music video link (and unfortunately the much cooler original “monster b-movie” music video seems unavailable, so this boring version will have to do)

    Foo Fighters – Big Me

Foo Fighters – Next Year UPDATED! 03/09/2015 – Chart re-done!

Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders – Louise UPDATED! 03/09/2015 – Chart re-done!

What: As much as I’m kinda neutral on Foo Fighters, I’ve always dug the drums, and older Foo is my preferred Foo. One song features a music video that parodies an ad that no one remembers or cares about, and one was the theme of a TV sitcom that no one remembers or cares about. Oh, plus a single from Taylor Hawkins’ solo project… that no remembers or cares about. Enjoy!

Okay, I’m totally selling them short – they’re all a blast on the drums, imo, and a legit pleasure to listen to… yes, even Taylor Hawkins! (yeah, it’s a left-field pick, but I’d dig the song even if he wasn’t riding someone’s coattails)

Drummer: Dave Grohl grohled all over the drums in his DIY debut Foo album, which included “Big Me”. When he could grohl no more, Taylor Hawkins usurped drumming duties on future albums (including “Next Year”) and tried wearing the Grohl pants on his own debut album, including vocals and drums.

Difficulty: Two are nothing crazy – “Big Me” seems straightforward, but is (as one would expect from Grohl) a perfect beat for the song and fun to play, while “Next Year” keeps it loose and jammy, with some fun fills. For crazy time signatures and bass drum out the wazoo (and by far the toughest thing I’ve had to chart so far), say hi to “Louise”.

Phantom Planet – California UPDATED! 03/09/2015 – Vocals, Harmonies, & Pro Keys!!

What: AKA the theme song from The O.C. Sure, its all earnest and corny and whatnot (just watch that David Letterman performance), but dammit, it’s a fun tune.

Drummer: Jason Schwartzman – Wes Anderson’s chosen one, fan of mustaches, multi-instrumentalist (see Coconut Records), all-around swell guy.

Difficulty: 1, yet more syncopation, but nothing crazy – (might be underrated?? man, rating is hard)

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Soul to Squeeze

What: It’s the song they still sometimes play on the radio but no one knows the name of; the one that’s kind of old but still a staple of their live shows, and one of my faves of theirs. It wasn’t from an album, but rather off the soundtrack of a forgotten movie where you can have the image of Dan Akroyd stepping in monster poop while wearing a space diaper seared into your brain.

Drummer: Chad Smith – the guy who might secretly be Will Farrell in disguise, if it weren’t for

    .

Difficulty: 2, more syncopation, but slow – still might be overrated

Modest Mouse – Ocean Breathes Salty UPDATED! 03/09/2015 – Chart re-done!

What: Love the band, love the drums

Drummer: Benjamin Weikel – subbed in for one album while regular drummer Jeremiah Green was on hiatus due to nervous breakdown; still occasionally tours with band as a second drummer (I think…) super talented dude – actually the drummer for The Helio Sequence (a Portland band whose 2006 music video “Don’t Look Away” was directed by none other than SNL and Portlandia’s Fred Armisen – connections!)

Difficulty: 4, due to some nutty syncopation… might be overrated, still kinda getting the hang of this

Great choice to start with. I love this album. It takes me back to my freshman year in high school.

No guarantees, but I might like to add a guitar track to it sometime.

      Welcome to the club!

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Soul to Squeeze: now up for grabs!!!

Next up – Something a little more ambitious… 3 songs revolving around a band where the frontman was the Devil, and another guy’s related to falcons (or maybe a hawk?)

Dude, you are on fire. It’s great to have a dedicated indie/alt charter. Your choices have been superb. Can’t wait to see some of the stuff alluded to in your first post.

Thanks for the kind words, I super appreciate it.

Yeah, I definitely plan on working on charts for those, and hopefully a lot more… at least that’s the plan. I just kinda recently stumbled on this whole concept and community, and I’m really lovin it.

good song choices, really wish I had the ability to chart the rest of the instruments, these would be great full band tunes!

Hey thanks. Yeah, me too… I’m feeling more confident with drums, maybe someday down the road I’ll try my hand at some other instruments. It would be virtually guaranteed to be crappy though…

New songs! Foo Fighters – “Big Me” and “Next Year”, and Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Rides – “Louise”

Also, some minor fixes on pretty much all of the old songs. If you noticed any obvious charting errors, they’ve probably been corrected (and if you didn’t notice… awesome! nothing to see here…)

Next up – a 1-off mystery song, then after that another “3 pack” from a band off the list in my first post – excitement!(??(!!))
