Welcome everyone to C3X LGBTQ+ Week. Today, we as a collective are here to celebrate anyone and everyone who supports every human that fits under the pride flag.For anyone that doesn’t know, today being the 26th of April marks the birth of my existence in this world. That’s right everyone, I turned another year older…So what better way to celebrate then with a pack of bands and artists that are a part of the pride flag! So I asked around to see who would be keen for helping an aging panda and here’s the results;The selected venue for tonight occasion takes place at The Stonewall Inn in Manhattan, NYC. For anyone that doesn’t know, this place was one of the foundings for gay people to feel accepted and was the site for the Stonewall riots to make our statement to the world, that we are here and queer, and we’re not going anywhere.
So without further ado, let’s start with the opening act:Eagles of Death Metal Pack presented by MrPrezident:
[ DOWNLOAD ]Eagles of Death Metal “Blinded by the Light”In 2018 EODM gave away a few hundred copies of the limited edition vinyl album “The Pigeons of Shit Metal”, consisting entirely of cover songs recorded and produced by Jessie Hughes. Those sessions also produced “Blinded” and the song was subsequently given to the Broken Lizard comedy group for the film “Super Troopers 2”.The album name comes from their failed 2006 tour supporting Guns ‘N Roses, where the Eagles received a very hostile reception from the Cleveland audience, before they had even taken the stage. By the fourth song they had given up and walked off the stage in defeat. “So how’d you like the Pigeons of Shit Metal?” Rose said onstage. “Don’t worry, that’s the last show they’re playing with us.” True to his word, EODM were quickly fired from the tour.To prove there are no grudges, the upcoming re-release of the covers album opens with his version of “It’s So Easy” by GNR.
[ DOWNLOAD ]Eagles of Death Metal “I Got a Feeling (Just Nineteen)”Jesse Hughes is the perfect manifestation of Josh Homme’s lighter side, slipping between a manic Mick Jagger and an ampthetamine Elvis Presley. “Just Nineteen” revels in the clichés of cock-rock, free of danger and seriousness, to celebrate simple, good, clean fun. The song pulls from the riffs of “First it Giveth”.
[ DOWNLOAD ]Eagles of Death Metal “Silverlake (K.S.O.F.M.)”An ode to all hipsters being denied entry into their favourite hipster club in Silver Lake, California (home town of frontman Jessie Hughes). “King Shit of Fuck Mountain” (KSOFM) is a term frequently used by drummer Josh Homme which equates to “the coolest of the cool” and was also the nickname of past EODM drummer Joey Castillo.CAKE Pack presented by MrPrezident:

CAKE “Frank Sinatra”
At first glimpse, CAKE’s rock ‘n’ roll sound — which has combined flourishes of country, hard rock funk and mariachi into a unique aesthetic for 20 years — has little to do sonically with Sinatra’s pop, swing and balladry. But listen closely to the way Sinatra’s voice bobbed and weaved through a complex arrangement and it’s not that far off from how McCrea’s baritone and choppy acoustic guitar have danced around Cake’s trumpet and cutting electric guitar parts since the band’s 1993 debut single, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Lifestyle.”“Frank” also appeared in The Sopranos episode “The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti” and the Daria episode “Road Worrier”.
[ DOWNLOAD ]CAKE “Mahna, Mahna”Originally written by Italian composer Piero Umiliani, the song was better known internationally by its use as the original opening number to 1976’s The Muppet Show.CAKE’s version was created for VH1 Save The Music Foundation’s For The Kids charity album in 2002, but it wasn’t until 2007’s B-Sides and Rarities album that the song gained the public’s attention.

CAKE “Pretty Pink Ribbon”
While the cancer reference and title suggest this song is about a woman dying from disease, it actually describes a kind of female priveledge that some beautiful, but vapid, women can be known to take advantage of.

CAKE “Hem of Your Garment”
Prolonging the Magic was the follow up to their breakout album Fashion Nugget, reaching platinum status in under a year. The wry wit, which has always been a CAKE asset, is still alive and well, but now the humor is sewn into the lining of each garment, rather than being worn as a lapel button. “It’s mixed into the album,” nods singer John McCrea. “I think there are humorous elements to even the saddest songs on the record, and I like the friction that’s created by having opposites stacked right next to each other. I savor that ambiguity, because that’s what life is really like.”“Hem” was featured in the film “Me, Myself and Irene”.And now onto the main event (Starts humming Main Event by RuPaul hehe)LGBTQ+ Pack presented by GreenPanda12, yani297, Kueller & Septekka:
Bloc Party – “Positive Tension” presented by SeptekkaDuring the 2000s, while the US was largely occupied by the “emo wave,” Britain on the other hand saw a boom of young indie bands rising to fame, with many of them stylistically paying homage to classic garage rock or post-punk. Some of them fizzled out very quickly (being dubbed “landfill indie”) while others endured, and while Bloc Party – easily one of the biggest bands of the scene – wasn’t quite as successful as say, Arctic Monkeys, I’d say they fared pretty well. They blew up with the release of their 2005 debut album, Silent Alarm, with hit singles such as “Banquet” and “Helicopter,” their particular brand of the style marked by frontman Kele Okereke’s urgent vocals, the intricate guitar interplay between Okereke and Russell Lissack, and the tight rhythm section composed of Gordon Moakes’s prominent, driving bass work and Matt Tong’s hyper-energetic drumming. Following their debut, the band have carried on to this day, releasing four more albums (with a lineup change prior to their most recent) which featured more experimentation into artsier arrangements and electronic textures but were not quite as popular or well-received (unjustly so, in my opinion).In 2010, Okereke came out as gay (with numerous songs from the band’s past career hinting towards that – most notably “I Still Remember” from 2007’s A Weekend in the City) making him perhaps one of the most prominent LGBT (and POC) musicians of our day, and thus an excellent fit for this pack!As for this particular song that I’ve brought today, it’s not particularly related to Kele’s sexuality in any way – its lyrics concerning boredom, mediocrity, and the superficiality of chasing fame with no merit – but it’s a fuckin banger so that’s the only justification I need. “Positive Tension” is technically their second highest-charting single, and although it still didn’t make quite as much of an impact as “Banquet” or “Helicopter,” it’s one of their most popular songs and a crowd favorite. It starts with a simple, but striking two-note bassline and gradually builds, adding a lively, powerful dream beat, followed by sarcastic spoken vocals from Kele, before bursting into the chorus with aggressive guitar chords, tricky disco beats, and call-and-response vocals between Okereke and Moakes. After the second chorus the song enters its second section – a massive build-up, starting with only guitar, then joined by increasingly frenetic drums and hysterical vocals, finally capped off with a dramatic cry of “WHY’D YOU HAVE TO GET SO FUCKING USELESS?” just before an explosive guitar solo.Special words from yaniv297:So, when I’ve heard there’s an LGBT week happening, my first thought was “awesome, I can do some John Grant for that”. And most of you are probably thinking – “who the hell is John Grant?”.So far that I would answer, imagine Elton John, but if Elton John was a pathetic, troubled, self-hating alcoholic, who grew up in a ultra-conservative Christian family and was raised to hate and hide his sexual identity. He’s an extremely honest and talented songwriter. And the songs charted here are named “JC Hates Faggots” and “Greatest Mother Fucker”, but they’re not humorous or outrageous or purpusely controversial – they’re honest, brilliant and true personal pieces of songwriting. So hopefully, that was enough to garner some interest!Here we go!
John Grant – “GMF” presented by yaniv297“GMF”, stands for “Greatest Mother Fucker”, is more of a traditional piano ballad. It’s Grant’s most popular song, and for a good reason – it’s beautiful, catchy and has some awesome lyrics. “I am the greatest mother fucker that you’re ever gonna meet” – declares Grant in the chorus of a touching personal ballad, that analyses his personality and lack of self confidence. “Go ahead and love me while it’s still a crime” – slyly referencing his homosexuality – “And don’t forget, you could be laughing sixty-five percent more of the time” – sings Grant, as this number slowly drops in the final chorus, mirroring his shattered, fake self confidence he puts on for this song.It’s a beautiful tune to sing and entertaining to play, with some awesome vocal harmonies, cool drums and bass, and really interesting melodic ideas – give it a shot!
John Grant – “JC Hates Faggots” presented by yaniv297So yeah, after “No Pussy Blues” and the lyrics of “Stagger Lee”, it seems like I’m competing with myself for the least politically correct lyrics!But seriously, this song is extremely dark, troubling and personal. Grant is an homosexual that was raised in an extremely conservative house, and the title is a direct quote form his parents. “I can’t believe I was considered taking my own life, cause I believed the lies about me were the truth” – sings Grant, in one of the most honest and heartbreaking lines I know. The choruses are sung from the perspective of his parents, who explain how Jesus hates faggots, Jews, sitcoms, parking fines, “men who cannot tame their wives”, and “pretty much anything you want him to”. It’s personal, touching and just brilliant.Musically, it’s based on some heavy synths and piano, so key players how there should have fun. There’s no guitar, but the bass is totally awesome all through the song, and there’s even a bass solo – yes, a bass solo! And drums are pretty cool as well with all kind of fills. It’s one of the most unique tunes I’ve done, musically and lyrically, and it’s just brilliant.
Mesita – “XYXY” presented by KuellerThis indie musical project hailing from Colorado (currently based in New York) features sole member James Cooley backed by his signature bright instrumentals and hip-hop inspired rhythms. In what he calls his “gay song”, XYXY deals with the anxieties of living the queer life and romance while simultaneously hiding from the world.
Neon Trees – “Your Surrender” presented by GreenPanda12So I’ve been tackling away at this album for a while now and figured this would be the next appropriate song to release as I attempt to get the whole album done which will happen eventually. Funny thing about this band is that the lead singer Tyler Glenn was very religious growing up and used to be a Mormon, when he finally decided to be true to himself and announce that he was gay. He didn’t want to stray from his religion nor did he want to stray from being happy so for him to come to a decision must’ve been a crazy turn of events.As for the song, vocals for such a highlight showcasing a great range with all the other instruments giving it a nice balance and fun song to play.
Troye Sivan – “WILD” presented by GreenPanda12Troye Sivan – “WILD (feat. Alessia Cara)” presented by GreenPanda12Why have one Troye song when you can have two? heheIn all honesty, the 2nd one wasn’t even planned for this pack. It was a very last minute decision to add this but there wasn’t much difference from the original. Only things that were different are the extra vocals and the tempo being increased slightly, it’s still the same song throughout.That being said, the drums are a nasty piece of work to play as any Troye Sivan song from this album would be. Crazy amount of disco beats to keep your arms pumping and lots of lane markers which are seriously needed for this, you’ll see why. Vocals are really fun to play with all the added parts in harmonies. The other instruments add a nice balance to it although they’re not that much fun to play.And that’s wraps it up. What a great showcase of talent that has emerged from being proud of who we are. I hope everyone enjoys these songs and can take the time to thank and compliment everyone that took part in this release.
