                achtzig to oities – a pan-european concert
                by Jimi369

Excitement stirrs in the stadium. People are gathered for a mini-benefit as part of the C3thon only hours after Alice Cooper brought the house down with a smashing performance. The German Rock Band debutants from the Spider Murphy Gang open the show with their biggest hit Skandal im Sperrbezirk. An energetic pop-song with some the Who-like tunes about Munich’s red light district.

(gameplay footage of this and the other customs is from versions before testing and fixes and will contain errors. If errors persist in the downloaded version, please drop me a line)

                bHg8xnu.jpg

After setting the tone they pass the baton to the collective known as Madness who perform one of their classics, Baggy Trousers, completely retooled for Rock Band after a limited release in 2015. It doesn’t take long for the crowd to pick up on the the chorus and fun times were had by all.

                NzJ0guy.jpg

Going back to mainland Europe the audience welcomes another set of debutants in the form of the Dutch group Doe Maar.
In De Bom (the Bomb) these former local superstars sing about the ongoing individualisation of society, using the threat of nuclear war as a backdrop. Shame that this is relevant 35 years later. Starting out in Dutch and ending with the words of the German dative case they set up the next act.

                jEy66UT.jpg

Hopping back to the UK the crowd welcomes another set of debutants, the Toy Dolls.
In contrast to the questionable subject matter of the first act they give us a children’s song stemming from the sixties.
The crowd sings along to the tale of an elephant escaping the circus or the Trump-anthem.

                cdvkqIi.jpg

As the band is cheered off the stage, the poppy synth tunes of Hans de Booij‘s Annabel fill the arena.
He agreed to perform the hit song he has come to loathe just this once for charity. What a guy!

                N1yXt9n.jpg

After the crickets have donated some much needed cash, German superstars Nena take to the stage.
Nur Geträumt‘s infectious energy even wins over the non-German speaking people in the stadium.
Reluctantly they leave the stage for the next act…

                uT8f1mP.jpg

Then former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel steps into the spotlight, hoping he doesn’t need a really fun videoclip (or multitracks) to entertain the audience with Sledgehammer. (Breaking news- Pro-Keys were just pledged by Bansheeflyer, thanks a ton! Looking forward to those)
The man proves he’s got what it takes and leave an energised crowd behind when he walks off.

                YCSqSQo.jpg

Finally it is up to the Austrian band Opus, to close this mini concert. And they come through by playing their most well known song Live is Life, which soccer fans might know from a

This is a European concert after all.

                tKiQ9PK.jpg

As the lights go out in the stadium and the fans turn in for the night, the spotlight moves across the pond to Canada, where the evening and the party are just getting started! Cue the new statesman…

Do you like this release? Awesome! If you would have downloaded this release even if it was paid DLC, please donate 90 cents per song to the Make-A-Wish foundation, well be forever grateful!

                Song count so far: 93

Thank you Jimi369 for this very ‘worldly’ selection of material! I must admit, I’m not familiar with most of these tunes but that is another big reason why we appreciate the work and energy all of you authors put into this great game. It exposes us to more music we otherwise may not have checked out! We’ve become new fans of several bands after playing some of the songs you guys have authored.

Looking forward to trying these out, man! Thanks!!!

Oh and for good measure, I will reiterate what rcale had already exclaimed …..“SLEDGEHAMMER”!!! Glad to see ya finally got that one released!

                        Canada 150 Week Finale
                        by MrPrezident

Tonight we complete our journey around the longest coastline on earth from Saint John’s to Tofino.

                        Sam Roberts “The Canadian Dream”

                        apjmCn7.jpg

It’s a popular misconception that Canada is a socialist country; while it may appear to be critically left-leaning, it is by no means reflected in how the country is governed. Sam Roberts’ dream is pure satire, not to be taken literally.

Bryan Adams “Straight from the Heart”

                        4zOqBO7.jpg

Though the song was written by Adams in 1980, it first appeared on Austrailian pop singer Ian Lloyd’s “Third Wave Civilization”, then on Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler’s “Faster Than the Speed of Night” before finally appearing on his own album in ’83.

                        Co-Authored by Spindoctor

Honeymoon Suite “Stay in the Light”

                        FYQgank.jpg

The third single from their multi-platinum debut album delivers a more brash and rough-around-the-edges feel that the band was largely unable to reproduce on later recordings.

                        Co-Authored by Spindoctor

Loverboy “Lovin’ Every Minute of It”

                        logBOEP.jpg

The lead single and title of their senior album, this song has been featured in countless soundtracks and scores since its debut in 1985. The quintesenntial Loverboy song featuring everything that made them a legendary rock band.

                        Co-Authored by Spindoctor

                        Neil Young “Cinnamon Girl”

                        toHCQh0.jpg

By far Neil’s most pop-oriented song; accessible, a heavy dance groove, impenatrable lyrics and filled with allusions that stir your desires. As mortals we are left to ponder who is or was the “Cinnamon Girl”.

                        Co-Authored by mrcoupdetat and Spindoctor

                        Chilliwack “Fly at Night”

                        uGmAAio.jpg

                        “They’re Canada’s Boston!” –Samyaza

At their very best, Chilliwack was the finest Canadian rock band, outrocking BTO and outwriting Burton Cummings. A lack of consistency and timely follow-ups kept them from international success. “Fly at Night” is among the greatest of all Canadian rock and roll songs.

Co-Authored by Crazy Canuck, Spindoctor, Samyaza and micicle

I firmly believe everyone should hear this song at least once, it is the final song of the Canada 150 project and I truly believe its the best of the bunch.

That concludes my C3Thon week of contributions, I’ll share some reflections on this in my own thread in the coming weeks. Huge thanks to my co-authors, especially Spindoctor for constantly encouraging me to keep going and to Farottone for being such a great leader and coming up with the idea for this event in the first place! Thanks to everyone else in the community you for your support, please remember to donate to C3Thon!
