          Thank you for Nightwish songs

Just a little issue with the 1X version of Beauty and the Beast : On X-Box 360 dashboard and in game, the song is title with (2x bass pedal) (but not the file name on PC => “NWAFF2Beauty(1X)”)

I’ll look at that. My guess – I probably used the same magma file for both versions, and my have forgotten to change the title.

Usually, the C3 tools fill in 2X bass automatically, but I seem to remember it didn’t. Anyway, I’ll load both versions into my x-box, and look at it. Should have a fix tomorrow.

Beauty is fixed. Turned out the 2X magma marker was checked in both versions. Simple fix.

Five customs will be up soon for February. These are all old, really old. To set the mood, I thought I’d let you try out an Oldie’s Quiz.

If you can guess the songs from the hints in this quiz, then you are, alas, really, really old!

                  QUESTION 1:

                  Answer A: Porn.

                  Answer B: More porn.

Answer C: Hey, Oldie here. I haven’t had so much as an R-rated thought since 1970.

                  Question 2:

                  Answer A: Murder.

                  Answer B: Bank robbery.

                  Answer C: Computer fraud.

Answer D: All of the above.

                  Question 3:

Tropical winds are sometimes referred to as?

                  Answer A: Nick.

                  Answer B: Cannon.

                  Answer C: Nick Cannon’s ex.

Answer D: None of the above.

                  Question 4:

                  Who was Captain Kangaroo?

Answer A: A cartoon action hero known for his incredible leaping ability.

Tune in tomorrow for the songs.

                  #480975

#1 Gordon Lightfoot – If You Can Read My Mind

#2 The Kingston Trio – Tom Dooley

#3 They Call the Wind Maria… So many artists have done this song, I am not sure which version you are releasing. Good luck to whomever guesses the correct artist.

#4 Captain Kangaroo – Theme Song or Captain Kangaroo – Guess Who I Am

I guess I must be old. LOL

And today I just got a year older.

                  What are the hints for the 5th song? <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

No hints for the fifth song – couldn’t come up with anything clever.

                    Happy birthday!

Wow. I *think* I’ve heard “Tom Dooley” although it is a 30 something year old memory. I’m completely unfamiliar with the other Kingston Trio song.

Haven’t heard this Gordon Lightfoot song in years, too.

                      Nice picks!

Here, then, are the new customs. The first hint was pretty obvious – as expected, the song is If Your Could Read My Mind, by Gordon Lightfoot. This is my second go at a Lightfoot song. This one has a nice tune, and some great guitar work. It is quite a lot of fun to play, at least on guitar.

The next hint was about Tom Dula. Pretty simple to google, and find out that Dula was an Appalachian boy convicted and executed, in 1868, for the murder of Laura Foster. Questions about his guilt still continue to this day. At least one rumor has Laura’s cousin, confessing to the murder on her death-bed.

A poet, Thomas Land, wrote a song about the murder and hanging shortly after Dula’s death. Short a’s, as in Dula, are typically pronounced as a long e, in the local dialect. So Land called his song “Tom Dooley”, since the name was pronounced like Dooley.

The song became a huge hit when it was recorded on the debut album of the Kingston Trio:

The Kingston Trio were an amazing group. Great musicians, with incredible voices. It is quite hard to believe that they haven’t appeared, yet, in our game. They have at least a dozen songs well worth playing.

My favorite, I guess, is Sloop John B, but we at least have a Beach Boys version of that available. Tom Dooley is wonderful, as is, from my third hint:

This song was written by Lerner and Loewe for a 1951 musical, Paint Your Wagon (eventually made into an awful movie). KT recorded their version of it for their live album, From the Hungry I.

The final hint was much tougher to crack, though, if you recalled my fondness for Tarantino scores, you might have come up with a song from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, Flowers on the Wall. This was a song written and released, in 1965, by the Country band, the Statler Brothers. It climbed up to #2 on the Country charts.

Usually, I stick to originals, but this song has two covers, both worth considering. Nancy Sinatra did a cover, and Eric Heatherly another. The Heatherly version is a bit weak on vocals – he doesn’t have Nancy’s voice – but the instrumentation is great. Guitar work is sharp and fun. Both bass and keys are tricky, and interesting. The drum work is really killer.

                        So, I went with Heatherly.

My final custom is a classical work, composed by Carl Orff, from 1937, O Fortuna. This is a great song, and has been used quite a lot in films, and concerts. Many metal bands have used parts of this on stage.

Watch Alexis Von Kraven work his drum magic to this song here:

                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dspkh4D0DqE

The version I chose is an internet only recording made by a guitarist who calls himself Better With Metal:

The drum chart was done by Ajfone23.

I opted for this version because the guitar work is stellar, and the drums are almost as good as Von Kraven. It also has bass, keys, and a little bit for vocals, so this one can be enjoyed by every player.
