So I was trying to download some customs recently, when suddenly I got a screen that said, “The site ahead contains harmful programs. Attackers on d.c3universe.com might attempt to trick you into installing programs that harm your browsing experience”. This happens every time I click download on the song I want. I’ve downloaded here many times, and nothing terrible of the sort happens. Is there a way to get the browser (I’m using google) to accept downloads?

Try Internet Explorer. Seems to work for now.

I’m on Firefox and when I got the message I was able to click a couple things and ignore the warning. It doesn’t show up anymore so that might be enough.

CON files have no extension, that’s why they are probably getting flagged. Great job browsers, that’ll teach virus spreading Web site that use .exe as extension!

It could also be due to one of the many tools (MAGMA, CON Tools, etc) that are distributed from the same website <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

Hopefully Nemo hasn’t been distributing a virus that infected a build of his software…

            Pretty sure I’m not.

This could be due to the whole secure site requirement Google rolled out. Had to apply a certificate at my job to all damn 98 domains to avoid this warning message. Google warned this week that they will start popping that warning up on Chrome to any site that isn’t SSL compliant.

Even Firefox said it was bad (info provided by Google). Firefox took it a step further and said that the specific file actually contained a virus or malware.

Google has pulled this crap before, when there was no security risk. At the behest of a company (likely a record company) Google has flagged the site as unsafe. It’s only potentially unsafe to some rich bastard’s wallet, and even that’s a heck of a stretch. I don’t think anybody’s downloading customs that they either haven’t bought before in some form or another, or that they wouldn’t buy if Harmonix actually made them available.

Having read the thread, I wasn’t going to don the tinfoil hat, until Firefox said it’s actually a virus. So either I’m crazy and I got a virus and my laptop is in trouble, or the file is perfectly fine and someone is having a laugh at us over expensive scotch.

Same. But I’m gonna guess the file type is being flagged under the same umbrella as the rest of what Google is doing to the web. Scanning every custom I’ve downloaded offline shows zero issues. I used to like Google, but now they’re turning into dictating bullies. I host my SAME type of files (CON) on Google drive, and amazingly, when you download them off of this site, you get ZERO warning.

There is nothing unsafe, Google’s detection system is based simply on probably file type and download system. You get redirected silently to the download URL (which Google might consider unsafe because you’re not explicitly getting told the download is about to start from a different server) and you download files without extensions, which might be another flag. CON files can’t execute viruses, they can’t be executed in any way, they are simply containers.

You should look into securing up both urls (the host download site and this one) to avoid having these warnings continue. You should also register these domains in Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools). This will tell you what security issues you have and give you insight on how to resolve them (from their perspective). Google is playing some hard ball with sites that have downloadable content or gather information (e.g. forms) but aren’t secure. But this one may be due to cross-site content that you referenced.

In which case, it could be a longer road to recovery.

I’ve been having the same screens the last two days. Thanks for the info in here. I didn’t think there was a problem but it’s good to see it being spoken about.

Turns out all the downloads I was doing for the last few days were a waste of time because they weren’t downloading. In Firefox I had to go to Options/Privacy and Security and uncheck the Security box to get my browser to stop saying these files are malware and are unsafe. What a load of bull.

I’ve not found a way around it yet with Chrome. A load of bull indeed.

I’ve had to start using Internet Explorer to grab customs from here. :/
