I’ve finally arrived at the testing phase for my first custom and tried to build my song in Magma. As I expected, I got a shittonne of errors. This is mostly fine – the descriptions helped me narrow a lot of them and eliminate them myself. However, some of the errors Magma is throwing at me are unclear, contradictory, or downright ridiculous.

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (BEAT): MIDI events at [180] after the end event at [180]

My [end] event is not at 180:2:091. It is at 180:4:000. And yes, I’m talking about the [end] event (not the [music_end] event) in the EVENTS tracks. As per Farottone’s PDF, I left one single marker in the BEAT track exactly one beat before the [end] event.

In fact, there is nothing, in any track, at 180:2:091, and there are no other [end] events anywhere (in EVENTS or any other track for that matter). I’ve gone into each track and pressed ALT+3 to check this.

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (‘PART BASS’): idle_realtime event at [180] is less than 2 beats from the beginning

I’m actually getting this error for each and every character animation event for all instruments including vocals. I’ve made sure the first animation event for each part is at 3:3:00 (two beats after the song starts), but I’m still getting the errors. Again, I’ve checked and double checked EVERY track using ALT+3 and there is NOTHING before 3:3:00 on ANY track except for the [music_start] and [prc_intro] events on the EVENTS track – both at 3:1:00.

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (EVENTS): prc_chorus_3b at [173] cannot come after end at [180]

Disregarding the fact that my [end] event is at 180:4:00 (NOT 180:2:091), the error even clearly states that the practice event in question is in fact before this phantom [end] event.

Oh yeah, and I’m getting one of these errors for EVERY practice event and crowd event. All of which take place before the [end] event. I’m even getting the error for [music_start] which is at 3:1:00.

A few of the errors look like this.

…at [4119] cannot come after end at [180]

My song audio ends at 181:1:00. All of my MIDI tracks end at 181:1:00. The project ends at 181:1:00. I literally can’t even scroll any further. Once again, ALT+3 on every track confirms that there is nothing after my [end] event at 180:4:00.

I desperately need some guidance. Thanks in advance again guys.

      Upload your Reaper project please.

PM me the .rpp and I’ll take a look if you want. I had some ideas when first reading but you’re saying you checked a lot for what I was going to say.

Edit: Oops, Admin got to it first <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />

Knowing me, it’s probably going to be something really obvious that I’ve missed, along with a shitload of other rookie mistakes. But hey, it’s my first time. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

Yeah, that’s poorly worded on my part. You need to leave all BEAT markers up until one before the end event.

I actually took a look at this quick and saw the BEAT track only had one note. I honestly assumed that my REAPER was messing up and not showing most of the notes ha. Sadly, that isn’t the first time I’ve opened up a file someone sent me and the notes in the BEAT track were “hidden” and I could not see them.

Wow. That literally fixed almost everything. Thank you.

There are a couple that I forgot to mention in my OP, however. Essentially, these.

(PART REAL_GUITAR): No left hand position set for gem at 3:1:120

(PART REAL_GUITAR): No root note set for gem at 3:1:120

(PART REAL_BASS): No left hand position set for gem at 3:1:120

(PART REAL_BASS): No root note set for gem at 3:1:120

I assume that this is because I haven’t touched the pro guitar or bass tracks. I don’t want pro guitar or bass, or even keys or harmonies for that matter. I just haven’t figured out the correct way to “not have them” in the song. If someone could point me in the right direction…?

          Mute those tracks, then export.

          Heh. That simple, huh? Cheers.

Okay, one more question (I hope). There are a few backing vocals here and there that aren’t worth implementing harmonies for, but I would like the other band characters to sing these parts and also sing along with the chorus. I’ve even created a separate vocal track just for these parts for their lip syncing. Is this possible without having actual harmonies?

Thank you immensely to everyone who has helped me out so far. I couldn’t have done it without you.

By “not worth implementing harmonies for”, do you mean simple doubletracking of the same vocal performance that the lead sings by the same singer, that is performance wise identical to everything else? Because if it doesn’t fit that it should be charted even if minimal, for example if it’s whispering, samples, a different pitch but only for a minor part of the song, etc. just for the sake of having the option to play the full thing with a band.

As for lipsync for harmonies, it’s dictated by the sing along markers in the VENUE track when having only lead vocals, if harmonies are charted each individual instrument sing a different part, though during them singing it have to be a sing along marker active to activate lipsync.

Looks like I still have a bit more work to do then. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
