      Hey all,
I always struggle with hitting the right word count. I either write too little or go way over. How do you estimate the length of a research paper before you even start writing? Any tips?

Hey! One tip that’s helped me is breaking down the assignment into sections (intro, body, conclusion) and setting word goals for each. For example, if your paper is 2000 words, allocate 300 to the intro, 1400 to the body, and 300 to the conclusion. Also, start with a solid outline—bullet points give you a rough idea of how much content you’ll need. It helps prevent under- or overwriting. If you’re writing in a specific field, check guides like this one on sociology essays https://www.customwritings.com/howtowrite/post/sociology-essay-guide/

Same here. Also, looking at past papers helps — you get a sense of how much space each section takes. Planning with bullet points first also gives you a rough idea of how long your arguments will be. And remember, it’s easier to trim than to add later!
